House Republicans Vote to Throw 300,000 Kids off Food Stamps In Order to Cut Taxes for Millionaires
By: Jason EasleyDec. 20th, 2012more from Jason Easley House Republicans passed John Boehner’s DOA Plan B 215-209-1, but what is important is how Republicans tried to fool America into cutting taxes for millionaires by throwing 300,000 kids off food stamps. Before the House could even vote, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, let them know that it didn’t matter what they passed because the Senate would not be voting on it. White House Press Secretary Jay Carney called Plan B an exercise in futility, “Plan B, which is the only thing the House of Representatives, the Republicans in the House, are focused on right now is a multi-day exercise in futility at a time when we do not have the luxury of exercises in futility. The Speaker and his lieutenants have spent days trying to twist arms and wrangle votes within their own conference. It’s an exercise in Republican vote counting that will not result in anything for the American people. It cannot pass the Senate. The President would veto it if it got to his desk.” House Republicans knew their bill was going nowhere, but they engaged in what amounted to a day long temper tantrum/publicity stunt that was designed to sell the same ideas that have failed to pass at least twice before. The bill may be dead, but it is important to look what the House Republicans tried to do. Rep. Chris Van Hollen pointed out during the debate that Plan B would throw 300,000 kids off food stamps and an additional 300,000 kids off of Medicaid. According to a White House analysis, Boehner’s Plan B would actually give millionaires a $50,000 tax cut. A Tax Policy Center analysis of Plan B found that it would result in a tax cut of $108,000 for millionaires. Boehner’s Plan B was nothing but the same old Republican upward redistribution of wealth that they have been pushing for two years. Voters rejected the ideology behind Plan B at the polls in November. Boehner and the House GOP offered a plan that wouldn’t seriously address the deficit, but would hurt the most vulnerable members of our society. All but 23 House Republicans voted today to cut food and healthcare for a combined 600,000 poor children, so that millionaires could get an extra fifty grand in their pockets. (Zero Democrats supported the bill, and they were joined by 22 Republicans who also voted no.) This is where the Republican Party is at right now, and it is also why it is looking more and more likely that we are heading over the fiscal cliff. http://www.politicususa.com/house-republicans-vote-throw-300000-kids-food-stamps-order-cut-taxes-millionaires.html ![]() |

They'll cut elderly and vets benefits before they ever talk about their salaries, benefits or pensions they voted for themselves!

The work of House Republicans can be summarized by one sentence:
"House Republicans thwart attempts to turn the USA into the United Socialist States of America." |

What does that have to do with the OP? Just showing how easy it is to slant a title to vilify people on one side of a political debate, which is what the title of this thread does. |

this is the civics lesson more and more schools have failed to teach for years (along with the one about how limited a Presidents power is next to congress)
a BILL , often has may provisions, usually not exactly the same as what is proposed but a combination of some suggested provisions and a compromise of provisions from the other side to get a majority consent. and then, pundits and politicians nit pick portions of the bill to villify or elevate politicians example: I propose a bill to provide health care as part of the school system for children, to add health classes which help them learn how to be their best healthy selves, and to have after school programs which provide a creative and athletic outlet for children. The other side then says they will consent to the bill IF they can add to it a class on the proper way to use needles, because needle use has become an epidemic and so many die from their unsanitary use. now, I have on the table three steps I feel are very important in helping children develop healthier habits and outlooks. I dont lilke the idea of teaching them how to use needles, but I either can have 3/4 things I see as beneficial. Or I can refuse and end up with nada. so I vote yes. ,,,well, my proponents will then outline how I supported a bill that gaurantees healthcare in the schools, or how I supported a bill that teaches children about healthy choices, or that I supported a bill that gives children creative outlets after school. opponents of course will just repeat how I supported a bill to teach kids about using needles. ,,point being,, support for a bill is not necessarily support for EVERYTHING in the bill, its support for things in the bill that were important enough to compromise on to get the desired outcome. they did it with Obama signing the NDAA (which was also a last minute spending bill for our military) and they do it with republicans passing a spending cuts bill. same political villainizing game,,,us v them nothing new to see here folks,,,we can move on ,,,, |

Bills allow the gov't to steal from everyone and give it to whom they choose....usually their corporate sponsors and supporters. There's plenty to see there and not much we can do about it when they make the rules...regardless of votes or public opinion. |

The OP shows how the Republicans could not care less about the under privileged in this country especially children... If you believe that, then I have some ocean-front property in Arizona to sell you. One thing that I have learned about national politics in the USA is that things aren't nearly as simple as partisan pundits say they are. msharmony is correct in her last post. This is just politics as usual. Republicans could turn down a Democrat plan because the Republicans favor a better plan, but a Democrat pundit will wail about how the Republicans voted against the Democrat plan, without bothering to mention the better plan that the Republicans favor. |

I will have to wait until I read actual news reports to figure out what is going on. |
