Another shooting spree has occurred in the US state of California as the American public is still in shock over the recent spate of massacres across the country.

A gunman fired at least 50 shots in a parking lot outside the Fashion Island mall in Newport Beach, 35 miles (56 km) south of Los Angeles, on Saturday, causing panic among the shoppers.

No one was injured during the shooting, but one person sustained minor injuries while escaping the scene, police said.

Shortly after the incident, police rushed to the area, arresting the shooter, identified as 42-year-old Marcos Sarinana, without any struggle.

“A male was shooting a weapon in the air and at the ground, standing by a vehicle,” said Newport Beach police spokeswoman Kathy Lowe.

The incident came as many across the US are on high alert following the recent spate of mass shootings.

On Saturday, a gunman opened fire at a hospital in the US state of Alabama, injuring a police officer and two other people before a policeman shot and killed him.

Earlier on Friday, a total of 28 people were killed in a shooting spree in Connecticut. Twenty-seven people - 20 students, 6 adult victims, and the shooter, who killed himself - were killed at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown. Earlier in the day, the assailant killed his mother in another location.

Later in the day, about 100 protesters gathered outside the White House demanding stricter gun control in the United States.

The Connecticut massacre came just two days after another gunman opened fire at a shopping mall in the US state of Oregon, killing two people and injuring several others.

An online petition has urged the US government to produce legislation that limits access to guns. The petition had more than 25,000 signatures just hours after its inception.

Limiting arms to citizens is the exact opposite of what needs to be done.
Why do Stupid Libs believe citizens being out-gunned by criminals will somehow make us safer?
How stoopid is dat?

I lived in an apartment complex inhabited by mostly gangs in Colorado Springs. I heard gun shots going off at least twice a week.

It was just another day in the city. laugh

Limiting guns for who? Law abiding citizens?

Does anyone seriously think criminals can't get guns? laugh

There appears to be a long-standing campaign by the federal government to disarm the citizenry, to spite the fact that armed citizens make things safer (a la Kennesaw ansd Switzerland). This flies in the face of logic and suggests a dark political motive by the powers that be.

What's next after the guns are gone?...FEMA concentration camps exploiting cheap, expendable labour?...Considering the way the economy is going, I wouldn't rule it out; SOMEBODY is gonna have to pay the banksters, and I have a sneaking hunch it's going to be the people.

Cry for the children who died, but don't let politicians take advantage of your emotional state to disarm the country.

I don't believe Americans will give up their guns even in the event of an executive order.

Hats off to the NRA! drinker

Oh is that what you think?

They want to disarm. They want to make assault weapons illegal to own.
That means disarm.

So why do citizens need assault weapons?

Because criminals have them, drug lords have them, and the government has them.

I really think few people want americans to 'give up' guns

I think the debate is about regulating guns, not taking them all away

noone can debate the constitution wanted the option to be 'armed'

the debate is who should be armed and what should constitute arms

we dont have our founding fathers weapons anymore,,,

I am sick of government regulating everything.

Lately, I am sick of the news. That's all the crap they talk about.

I have decided not to listen or watch the nonsense being spewed all over the media lately.

If we regulated everything that could be used as a weapon, most of us would have to jump thru hoops just to have dinner cutlery or baseball bats for a sunday game. There are people who cannot be trusted with a dinner fork and we (rightly) regulate them and disallow the utensil.

The same should be the case with guns. Don't regulate the guns, regulate the people who present the danger of causing harm.

its not that it 'can be used as a weapon'

it is made to BE A WEAPON,,,

and rarely do people commit mass murders with mererly a dinner fork,, that takes much more time and effort than pulling a trigger,,,

I suspect that some people want more regulations of firearms because they believe that such regulations could have prevented the tragedy in Connecticut if the regulations had been in existence.

However, that belief if questionable.

Human beings want to live in a world in which everything is predictable and makes sense.

Thus, when an unpredictable, senseless act of mass murder takes places, people are shook up not only because the act is a horrid act, but also because the act diminishes their sense of security.

So, people demand more government regulations as a way to restore their sense of security, even if such regulations could not have prevented the tragedy that people are responding to.

I dont know if any one thing could have stopped the young man from his spree

because no one thing caused it

but there were several things that 'aided' is capability and fueled his ambition

ignoring those things is of no use in preventing future situations, or decreasing their number
