The storm isn't just hitting New York. There are several other states that will be severely affected as well.

I suspect that girlhappy isn't hearing those details because of what nation that she lives in.

Well, since it isn't even hitting NY directly, I'm sure those details are out there, even for those who aren't in the US.

The subways are all closed.

The Long Island train service is suspended until further notice.

Wide spread flooding and extended power outages are expected.

No argument, ese. Just pointing out it's not just NY. So, you can relax.

Everything is shut down here, too. No public transportation is running and most people did not go into work. Same with New Jersey, I believe as well.

Regardless who all is included or not New York is still one of them that is in the path of major problems...

I do realize that. I was just simply pointing out there are many, many people in other states that are right in the path of the hurricane as well. It's a huge storm and tons of people will be affected severely. Hope your son is ok.

Me too girl, of course it is his first one to encounter. He is there due to his job for now and well he is all excited about it...But mommy is NOT! lol

As of right now, from Mastic Beach, it's pretty windy with a little bit of rain.

But the worst is yet to come.

Thoughts and prayers for everyone in the storm's path. Hope it passes quickly with minimal damage.

An update: For those of you who do not have experience with hurricanes, the worst areas to the be hit are on the dirty side, near the eye. The eye is due to hit Jersey near midnight which means New York will take the brunt of the storm. The storm surge with be maximized there and the flood damage is usually the worst ... combined with wind damage.

I know I've done everything I could to prepare my home, friends and family for this.. we'll just have to ride her out and hope after all's said 'n done we're all still standing!

be safe everyone on the eastern & northeastern seaboard.. maybe if we all use the powers of our minds we can push this beotch out to sea!

Just keep your eyes on the news and be ready to evacuate if need be.

My thoughts are with you folks from New York. We had an earthquake in British Columbia and my thoughts are also with those people for fear of Tsunami. I hope all will be fine.
