There is a hurricane headed for where I live. Some people tell me that it's not going to be a big deal, and then I see others buying extra water, candles, propane, and canned food.
I'm not sure what's going to happen, but it will be here Sunday to Monday. |

I would err on the being prepared side. I have never been in any hurricane or tornado, anything like that. Did ride out an earthquake once. No horrific blizzards. That is why I love the Northwest!!!
Hope things aren't too bad and you guys stay safe and warm. Take care. |

Always best to be prepared Captain...What I would worry about most is a power outage...We had one here for 5 days and its not fun...
You and family take care and be safe.. |
We have water and enough canned food to last awhile......
Make sure you have a manual can opener...Lots of people don't think about that... When our power goes out here, we can't use the water (or toilet) because we have a well...however I do have a wood burning stove in my living room that I could heat up things to eat or drink..

I just checked......we have two of them.

Maybe the wind will blow me away to a far off land where
A witch will follow me around along with a lot of little people...... Oh wait- that was Dorothy and it was A tornado - not a hurricane |
Maybe the power will go out and I will get a little vacation.......

We have a big phone chain from work- lots of people to call if
If we close:( |
I wonder what will happen if my store closes........

Make sure your phones are fully charged.... and you have a power outlet for the car... Just in case of a power outage you will not be without a phone as well.
Extra batteries you will not be able to find them after an outage. I lost power for 30 hours when it was hitting 100's here... Did not have one decent ice chest for the food in the refrig so I could ice it down... Had to go hunt for one they had two left on the shelf... Candles are good as well ... |

There is a hurricane headed for where I live. Some people tell me that it's not going to be a big deal . . . Then those people don't know the weather history of New England. They could be in for a big surprise. |

A battery-powered radio is an item that you ought to have. You have to get local news somehow. |

Hey captain permission to come aboard. I live in south carolina on the coast and have been in a few. First make sure your stocked up with plenty of lite beer. Also make sure your gas grill has fuel because when the power goes out and theres no coffe in the morning people can legally kill each other. when your food defrosts load up the grill and chow and most of all sir remember to help your neighbors make a bad situation fun and seriuosly please be careful!! god bless and good luck

Good idea on the gas grill it is one thing I normally always have.... since mine has a side burner on it helps out in time of no power.... There is nothing that can not be cooked on a grill or heated up....

I will have to get some propane today.

I will have to get some propane today. While you're at it see if you can find one of those wind up flashlights and radios. Then you won't need batteries. Also have plenty of water. That stuff goes fast. And be real careful about running any kind of propane or kerosene type heater indoors. Make sure you have plenty of ventilation. |
