Republicans on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform have released new documents backing up claims by security personnel previously station in Libya that there was a shortage of security personnel in Benghazi.

The documents contain previously unreleased cables from Ambassador Stevens and his staff reflecting concerns about safety in the country.

The U.S. State Department did not have an immediate comment.

One signed by Stevens and titled “LIBYA’S FRAGILE SECURITY DETERIORIATES AS TRIBAL RIVALRIES, POWER PLAYS AND EXTREMISM INTENSIFY,” dated June 25, 2012, assess the increase in violence. ”From April to June, Libya also witnesses an increase in attacks targeting international organizations and foreign interests,” Stevens wrote, describing attacks on a United Nations official in Benghazi, International Committee for the Red Cross buildings in Benghazi and Misrata, and IED at the mission in Benghazi, and RPG fired at the British Ambassador’s convoy, and an attack on the consulate of Tunisia.

I dont think at this point there is a dispute about requests being made

who received the requests and what those requests would have changed if granted is whats still debated,,

All of the attacks and threats are documented in a timeline of actual events...The "shifting" explanations from Obama, Biden, and Clinton are also documented....All three lied repeatedly....They were aware of the violence and the need for more security and did nothing...what will be interesting is finding out why they turned a blind eye to the danger in Benghazi that ultimately lead to the deaths of four Americans....

Issa and Chaffetz say they’ve “been told repeatedly” that the Obama administration not only “repeatedly reject(ed) requests for increased security despite escalating violence, but it also systematically decreased existing security to dangerous and ineffective levels,” and did so “to effectuate a policy of ‘normalization’ in Libya after the conclusion of its civil war.”

The Obama administration has never been honest or wise when it comes to dealing with Islamic extremists and the threat they pose...Motive for lying is anyone's guess...Mine would be they lied because they knew the political cost would be fatal to Obama's bid for re-election....I don't think it was a matter of them thinking the truth would NOT come out eventually, it was a matter of them thinking they could control WHEN it came out, glad hand the incident until after the election...I think they underestimated Nordstrom and Issa's insistence on telling the truth immediately as well as Romney and Ryan's determination to push the issue to the front of the campaign...I also don't think anyone on the Obama team was expecting Biden to outright lie on a nationally televised event but it is a proven fact that he did lie when he answered the question asked about the lack of security in Benghazi only hours after State Department security officials testified under oath at a special hearing in Congress stating that they made repeated requests for more security only to have those requests denied...This was Biden's answer,"We weren't told they wanted more security. We did not know they wanted more security there."...

As to a criminal investigation into the events...I hope so.....If nothing else, all three are guilty of negligence...IMO of course....bigsmile

Obama's illegal war in Libya no big deal.

Using the world optimal to describe a situation that is not optimal is a huge deal.

Why do we have Embassies around these unstable regions around the world? How the hell do we protect all of these hundreds of embassies?

1983 U.S. embassy bombing 63 dead. Blame Reagan
1998 United States embassy bombings. 224 dead. Blame Clinton

In all fairness to Clinton, until Benghazi, I think she did a decent job especially considering what she had to work with (that would be zero)...Also, think back to the 08 campaign and how much support she had before narrowly losing the nomination to Obama...There was a lot riding on her giving support to Barack and I think a few deals were made before she endorsed him...Remember, she didn't endorse him until after the two met privately at her home in NY...Also, do not underestimate the Clintons pull in Washington, especially Billy's...I hear he is all over this one....And why does it beat hell out of you why she still has a job?...On what grounds would they fire her?....I'm not saying they won't have grounds after the investigation is complete, but right now they have none for her or Obama...And lastly and not that this is a reason, but Clinton has made it clear if Obama is re-elected she will not serve as his Sec'y of State...Maybe she also made it clear to Obama that she is no longer willing to be his patsy...
