I'm feeling you there. I had a couple of good ones out of the bunch. A girl and a guy. They were sharp as a whip. I had them doing short orders in 2hours. They should have been cooks. They got burned too.

...If the cooks mess up or takes too long then the waiter hears about it. People like drinks with meals so the bartenders do that job for the waiters. The bus boys clean off the tables quickly so more people can be sat.

I guess that is why I don't mind the tip share. ...Oh I did forget the host/hostess. I did that job too and let me tell you, the waits were hard. No one likes to wait for a table. They are on the front line of it all

Poor girl. She really has no control over what comes back off the dining floor. Let alone through the door. And she was the cashier too. She was also a shield for managers. First Contact, never put your captain out front.

Being in the restaurant biz for 19yrs Im biased but belive me management for 3 and hr will have you clean and do disgusting jobs for their restaurant They make all the profits and you live off the tips. But if you get attitude or bad service do not tip!!!

I think people who do not tip should be stripped completely naked, covered in honey and thrown into a thick jumping cholla patch.

I worked at the Steak N Ale across from Six Flags, so it was always busy

Hey! I worked as a janitor at the Six Flags.

We, the cleaning staff and the night security, used to call it "the Streakin' Pale across from the Six Fags."

That was in the days when people only had to give 87% at the jobs, not 100%, so we still retained a little sense of humour.

Ask Soufie, she'll agree.

A waitress job is a good place for single mothers to earn a decent living while having schedule flexibility... it ain't easy and they deserve it most of the time. so 15-20% is a must IMO.

I've had buddies with masters degrees wait on tables for years because of bad times... The thing that strikes me the most is that waiters are the biggest tippers of them all... Cause they know!

I've worked for tips before, therefore I always try and tip extra. I don't believe in tipping at like coffee bars and lame places, but restaurants yes, I tip generously. They work very hard for their money.

What are your thoughts on tipping? I am against it. Managers at restaurants can more than afford to pay their staff more than minimum wage. Plus, there are thousands of people who work REALLY hard in all sorts of industries that nobody ever thinks about!!! THEY are the ones who deserve tips and gifts!!! Not people who take 30 seconds to make you a mixed drink. Watch this video!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WTAiWzxHALc

Nice restaurant, Nice service at least 15% tip otherwise a person is cheap. lol
I love to eat out and have no problem tiping and neither do my friends.

I dont mind tipping but the waitresses now adays think that you should tip 10percent of what you paid to eat BS! I think it should be out of kindness of the heart to tip. It should not be an obligation to tip more than 2dollars should do it. I myself was a waiter and I did not want my customers not to come back because they feel obligated to tip me. I want them to come back knowing and feeling comfortable eating at my restaurant so that way they can keep the money coming and hopefully I get a raise. Do you agree?

Total BS! I overtip, usually 25% or more, because I used to wait tables and I know it is the tips that support waiter/waitress, not the small salary. If you are not going to leave a decent tip, go eat at McDonalds.

Raise? Waitpeople get raises? Are you sure you weren't the restaurant owner? Your post doesn't make any sense. What, did you tell your customers not to tip you?

Tip percentage has always been 15%, 10% is borderline, 20% or more for great service. There's nothing "nowadays" about it. And I think having to depends on tips for a living is BS, all right, but until there are some laws about it, it's expected, and therefore rude not to. I agree with Metalwing, if you don't want to tip go to a fast food place or a deli.

On a day when I don't feel like leaving a tip, I go out and kills meself a bison with my trusty spare. Drag it home, skin it, cook it and eat it. I usually put a piece of parsley and a thin, curling slice of lemon on top for decoration on each serving.

I usually tip generously...I like my food to much to have anybody mess with it back in the kitchen (LOL). The restaurants I frequent the wait staff knows me and I get good friendly service. My tip shows that I appreciate it.

Going into a restaurant or bar with the attitude that the people who are there working to serve you don't deserve tips is kind of rude. Especially, knowing how things work in restaurants in the US. Why take it out on the server just because you don't agree with how much they are paid?

For those who don't tip, do you go to any restaurants regularly? I'm guessing not, because you'll be known as the person who doesn't tip...

It sucks when people have to share tips. What if someone worked hard and earned a large tip and they have to share it with someone lazy and rude who does not deserve it??? That is not fair!!!

Now this part I do agree with you. I have never worked where I had to share tips with other wait staff....

I have seen it too many times where you have those that should not be waiting tables but making the same as eveyone...Not right to me...

I work part time at a restaurant. The servers give a portion of their tips to the bussers, who set/clear tables, help run food, make sure water is filled and so on.

They all put up with a lot from customers. Customers can get nasty when things don't go exactly right, if they're not sat when/where they want, if their drinks aren't strong enough, if they're sitting next to people they don't like and so on.

Psssst... at least 15% is standard these days.
