I always tip if I get god service! But noy if I get crappy service.
Montana is the only Stae that pays minimum wage. From what I understand. And we still tip. |

Here in Ontario, minimum wage is $10.25 but servers get paid $8.90 an hour.

I've always tipped fairly generously.
Of course I seldom go out to eat, too many people underneath my sto...Err, heh, well, this is a bit awkward. |

Tipping as an expectation is a joke! It is rare when I do it because usually service I get is mediocre. I have done it before but usually for someone who put up with a customer from hell in front of me or their service was just that, PROFESSIONAL service WITHOUT expectation. I have only been tipped about two or three times in a lifetime of the hellaciously hard work I have had to do over the years. If anything I work FAR harder than a lot of people and I have no expectations of a gratuity. Come to think of it more often than not I am so under paid for what I do if anything I am a victim of exploitation. To get a tip from me it has to be earned. Likewise considering the economy most of the people working for a restaurant should be more thankful I am keeping them in work constantly patronizing their establishments. Now that I am more settled and have a kitchen for myself I am finally reacquainting myself with healthy food that won't clog an artery and likewise reaffirming that I can out cook a lot of people!
If anything I have a tip for people with low paying jobs, find a better job or quit bytching since the job market is real tough right now. I am so sick of it I am in business for myself! And my new job treats me lot better. Instead of a boss now I have partners and the play field is so different not being a lackey! My last primary job was a testimate of a job that SUCKED! And the more I think about it not only was I under paid and UNDER APPRECIATED, no one listened to me or my expertise. Everyone associated with my former job can suck it now! I IS EXPENSIVE NOW! Go ahead and keep your tips! Life is looking a lot better for me. At least I think I got a future now! That makes life a lot more tolerable! Even if I am scraping to get by right now! |

Well, this sucks! I thought the topic was gonna' be about cow tipping. Me too! dang it... But I tip about 20 to 25 percent, knowing the restaurants don't pay minimum squat and it is work to be on your feet all day and have to deal with rude customers... |

Good grief people! If you go to a full service restaurant, be prepared to add 15% to the bill. You can adjust that up or down according to the quality of service but it is EXPECTED that you pay for the service and that is the money the staff is working for. They are NOT getting rich!
If you CAN'T justify adding 15% to the bill or can't afford it, go eat at a taco bell. |

This is the same way I feel..People have too many places to eat at if they don't want to tip or out to get a free meal they need to go fast food or stay home... And if I go out with someone that does not tip, I will leave a tip and it will be the last time I go with that person.. Waited tables and was a bartender too many years.. Believe me I never got rich but made a good enough living to raise my kids... |

I put up with rude customers and did it with a smile on my face and still gave it 100% |

I'll always tip well for good service, poorly when the service is poor. I remember a restaurant where one waiter was alone working the entire dining area and running his arse off. He was overworked, underpaid, couldn't keep up with the customers, and got an excellent tip from me.
And if you frequent a particular place, they'll remember how you tip, and your service will be adjusted accordingly. |

I managed the first steak house in the town from 1980-1984. At the time, i brought home about 175/week. Our waitresses made about 2.50/hr plus tips. Often times, making more money per week, than i did.
Those people worked, and they deserved every penny. Back then, there was no tip added to the bill. It was up to the customer to leave the tip on the table. A waitress or waiter's job does not begin when the doors open, and it does not end when the doors are locked. In the mornings, the perishable condiments have to be placed on the tables. The salad bar has to be stocked, and the coffee has to be made. After closing, the waitress has to take any perishables off of the table and put them in the cooler, wipe the tables down with a solution of bleach and water, wipe out all chairs/booths, and vacuum the floor. So yes, i leave a tip, and more than a penny (that is considered an insult) |
