God is back in the Democratic Party platform.

The issue has been resolved.

(CNN) - Democrats voted to update their party's platform Wednesday evening at their convention to include a reference to Jerusalem being the capital of Israel, as well as the insertion of the word "God," neither of which was included in their platform this year but was in previous platforms.

Apparently, the previous deletions took President Obama by surprise.

I suspect that the majority of Democratic Party delegates had not noticed the deletions when they voted to approve their platform.

Gotta love politicians. They do something then when there is public outrage about it they play like they didn't know and then change it back and it's all good. I've seen no explanation from any one as to why it was removed in the first place.

Besides, when Jesus talked about prayer, he said that people should pray in the privacy of their homes,
not out in public where their alleged piety could be seen.

DoDo, Jesus NEVER said that people should only pray in "their homes".

Now that is a "misinterpretation" since you're looking for errors!

He Himself prayed outdoors.

"The annual "See You at the Pole" rally is a way for God-fearing students to see that they are not the only God-fearing students in their school."

This is not the purpose for "SYATP"!
Rather a benefit and a consolation.

Matthew 6:5-6:

And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

Matthew 14:23:

And after he [Jesus] had dismissed the crowds, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray.

Mark 1:35:
And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he [Jesus] departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed.

Although there are occasions when public prayer is reasonable (by "public" I mean occurring in a public area), it isn't necessary on a daily basis.

I think his guy has a hearing problem.

Why those things were removed from the party's platform is a good question.

I still believe that President Obama didn't know about the removal until after it happened.

Yeah, the vote to put the those things back into the platform was not a unanimous vote. When the voice vote was conducted, there were delegates who shouted, "No!"

Lol yeah it sounded 50/50 to me not a 2/3 majority.

It's not good to make indoor/outdoor prayer an issue.

The verse about the hypocrites does not apply to the SYATP!
They have a more sincere purpose for their gathering.

So It'd be best left alone, Dodo.

Or you may find yourself accusing something that God has established for His purpose.

Let the Spirit of the Lord determine it's necessity.

The verse you used is for each individual pray-er to examine his own motives.

The Lord said:

"For where two or three are gathered together in my name,
there am I in the midst of them."
Matthew 18:20

CeriseRose, can you tell us how your ability to pray in public has been taken away?

huh I did not say that the verse about hypocrites applied to SYATP. I specifically said that there are occasions when public prayer is reasonable.

Come to think of it, I used SYATP to illustrate the fact that the ability to pray in public has not been taken away, contrary to what you claimed earlier.

So what if the Dems platform does not contain "God".

Look at what the GOP Presidential Candidate, Mitt Romney believes:

God was a flesh and bones alien living on the planet Kolob.
When Mitt Romney dies, he will become a God and have his own planet.

There is a difference between an individual's religious beliefs and the majority belief expressed by a political party.

Specific Mormon beliefs are not a part of the Republican Party Platform.

Yes that really sounded like a 2/3 majority to me. They must have counted the dead voters to get to the 2/3 needed to pass it.
"They were against God before they were for him" -Paul Ryan

And why was it removed in the first place?
Every answer I hear is different.

Three votes for the Democracks to reinstate God and Jerusalem.

Take a look at the pizzed off Arabs at the vote.

Reinstating Jerusalem, "God" language met with boos at DNC

Barry says he acknowledges Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. Ghange of heart??? No. Just trying to get that edge back.

The 2008 Democratic Party platform has the aforementioned statements that were added to the 2012 platform yesterday.
