I think we can be "introduced" to prejudice in many different ways. (And from many different groups and organizations etc.)...My parents decided to send me to an "elite" private Catholic girl's high school. (In the hope that I would receive a "top-notch" education at this "academy!")...Some of the nuns at this school (and the dean) encouraged us to view ourselves as the "cream of the crop." And far superior to girls who attended other Catholic high schools or (heaven forbid) public school...There was definitely a "snob factor" at the school that really "bugged me."...My parents were "down-home people" who didn't believe in putting on "airs." So I ran into a big culture-clash...Eventually I left the school to get away from all the "snobbery." I didn't want to get "tainted" or brainwashed...But a lot of my classmates at the school really seemed to enjoy feeling "special" and "superior." being a parent aint easy,,lol its not terrible to teach kids to be their BEST and to believe in their best being phenomenal so they might too but its difficult to find common ground with those who take that faith in themself over a line into lack of faith in others,,, my folks sent my brother to an academy, but they enforced in us that our 'opportunities' were because of THEIR CHOICES and THEIR HARD W?OR, and not something that made us better or worse than anyone else we learned to appreciate the opportunity BECAUSE not everyone had it, instead of looking down on others who (for whatever reason) didnt get the opportunities we had,, |

so what does racism have to do with the dems calling the repubs stupid? dems like to holler racism at every turn, even when the shoe doesn't fit. The tea party is a little racist, but the republicans are not really, as a whole. The dems put that spin on it because they are lazy, and do not want to work for a living, and would rather have people as slaves of the government by extending benefits and handing out food stamps like crazy. why would anyone want to work for less than the government gives them? The republicans want to put people back to work, but the dems would rather give the lazy people everything for free...

Msharmony, The military helped make me racist and it has taken a long time to recover as you say. But that was late 60s and early 70s, methinks they are better integrated now... If the military made you racist, how did many others get through being in the military without being racist? they didnt, although they may have learned to fight against it so that they became 'recovering' racists,,, some racism is just much more subtle and less 'hateful' than other racism,,, You have got to be F***ING kidding me!! So all who served are racist? I'd like to see some proof of that. I don't recall going through rehab for racism. Or does that mean I'm a full blown racist and not a "recovering" racist. Guess I need to go to be VA and get some counseling. That has to be the most ignorant coment I have ever seen. |

That has to be the most ignorant coment I have ever seen. its not isolated to the service, its in ALL elements of our american culture all growing up in America (with maybe the exception of rural folks with little access to media) are growing up with RACIST and STEREOTYPICAL foundations,,,,, the military is particularly susceptible because of the ranking system and the life/death circumstances |

the military is particularly susceptible because of the ranking system and the life/death circumstances Again I call BS on this!! If your going to call soldiers racist I would appreciate some proof. I would also like to know how the ranking system and life and death circumstances make them more susceptible to racism? Please enlighten me. When you make a BS claim please have some facts to back your claim. Through my experience the ranking system and life/death circumstances brought us closer together. |

It's beliefs like yours that make the transition from soldier to civilian so difficult for soldiers. Again I ask for some facts to back your opinion please. And I also ask you to refrain from disrespecting soldiers. |

I HAve loved ones risking their life for AMerica DAILY dont assume things I have not 'disrespected' soldiers I have only stated a reality they face, because they are American and AMERICAN media and public education BREEDS Racism on different levels and the US MILITARY INSTITUTION where some lives are more expendable than others and its 'us' vs 'them is not immune from that same breeding |
