Time to tune out...Ann Romney says she understands the stress Americans are facing but she kind of "glossed" over all of it in a "sing-song" kind of way...She reminds me of my well-to-do Aunt. Oh well!

Her speech was really good I thought!
I felt that Ann Romney went a bit overboard trying to reach and appeal to women at the beginning of her speech..And same goes for the "I feel your pain" stuff...But it's hard for me to trust Michelle Obama too. (Or any politician and/or their spouses right now.)...Words are cheap! Anybody can (and will) say anything in order to win votes and get elected!

one thing that creeps me out about the Romneys is their silver spoon upbringing COMBINED with the attitude and belief that everyone else is capable of doing what they were able to do, but without the resources and assistance they had to do it

the drama of being upset over having been described as not having 'worked' a day in her life (because being a mother is a job,, with which I agree),,,

while the party downplays and minimalizes other women as needing to 'work' who are likewise 'mothers' (but without the financially successful husband to allow them to stay home)

irritates me,, as a struggling mom myself,,,

I can relate. I was a "struggling" single parent myself for many years. And now I'm the only widow among my circle of friends...Life is hard for so many families these days. My friend's husband just got laid-off again for the umpteenth time. (And they still have small kids to support somehow and some way even though jobs are hard to come by around here right now.)...Ann Romney sort of "glossed over" the plight of others during her speech. I know she "meant well" but I don't feel that she really "gets it."

Im in agreement here too. They are both probably decent folks who mean well but just happen to be too out of touch to 'do well'
When people "move-up" in life they usually spend their time with other "rising stars." (Versus going back to visit family members and friends in the "old neighborhood" very often.)..I guess this is to be expected. But they can definitely lose touch with the lives of "average folks." And it shows...It seemed to take President Obama quite awhile to realize how much the country was "suffering" during his first years in office. How well would Mitt Romney do?

I dont agree that it took OBama a while to know the country was suffering,, I think thats what caused the urgency for the stimulus and auto bailout

Obama growing up with a single mom , and no dad, and then grandparents and no single mom

not of means, struggling through school, working as a community organizer and living off of grants and loans

until he got it together enough to earn a magna cum laude degree from harvard

and marrying a working mother

,,, I think gives him alot more of a real and personal connection to the average joe than someone who was born into a two parent home with an automobile CEO and stay at home mom

attending a private junior school, working with his father who was a Governor by that time

marrying another private school student , who had the choice to be a stay at home mom

in other words, the average joe doesnt have the 'built in' resources available to Romney, and I dont think he 'gets' that

I think OBama has never had the chance to not 'get' that, being one of those average joes most his pre political career,,,

According to what they are saying at the convention and the convention news coverage, your "silver spoon" comment is false. It is the "line" being spread by democrats.

how is my silver spoon statement false

he was born to a TWO PARENT HOME, with the provider being an AUTOMOTIVE CEO

he went to a private school, as did she

he worked (networked) in his fathers office when his dad was GOVERNOR

,,,,what else would one call that?

I voted for Obama in 2008 but became disillusioned with him after awhile. I don't want to vote for Romney. So I'm kind of in a "pickle" when the Nov. election rolls around.

You don't understand the term. "Silver spoon" means his wealth came from family wealth. Mitt Romney made his own wealth. Until he did, he did not live a wealthy lifestyle.

Having a two parent home has nothing to do with a "silver spoon".

Mitt and Ann Romney seem like great parents. I've enjoyed watching the interviews with their 5 sons on TV..I think it's great when couples stay together for decades and decades. (It's not always easy!)...I like Ann Romney. But her speech didn't really convince me that she could totally relate to the lives of everyone in the USA today...Same goes for Romney's speech last night. He didn't really "reach" me. But he tried...Most of the time I "tune-out" when Obama gives speeches these days. Hard to really trust him anymore. Feel the same about Michelle Obama too.

let me repeat a TWO family home with the provider being an automotive CEO

AUTOMOTIVE CEO,

who could send him to a PRIVATE SCHOOL

and who then became GOVERNOR

who could EMPLOY him on his campaign and in his office (built in POLITICAL/GOVERNMENT references/contacts)

he didnt have to STRUGGLE,,,with those built in networks and resource he was BORN INTO

I feel the same about the OBAMAS, as far as seeming like great parents, enjoying their interviews together, and thinking its great that they stayed together for decades AND both achieved college success through loans and grants and hard work (Financially) AND

balanced working and taking care of children while maintaining that marriage.

Im sorry you no longer trust OBAMA, I trust him even more because I view him as working TWICE as hard being so historically under a microscope and achieving in SPITE of such hateful and determined opposition within such a 'do nothing' session of congress.

I dont think either one is any more or less 'trustworthy'

Mitt has made plenty of statements that have been real whoppers himself,,,

Honestly, if anyone did Romney favors at the RNC, then it was Ryan and Rice. Hate Ryan all you want but he is exactly what Romney needs if he has any hope of winning this election. I know Ryan is the equivalent to Pelosi in that Pelosi leans so far to the left while Ryan is the ultra staunch conservative. Rice presented herself as the stronest precense at the RNC. Her speech was pure gold and it even had liberal analysts on MSNBC loving it.

Now. I am tired of hearing about how Romney is rich, he is this and that, and he doesn't understand the majority of American's problems. And you think Obama does? Obama has no idea what it is like for farmers to struggle. Neither does Romney. Obama doesn't work two jobs and barely can keep all his bills paid like a majority of American's do. Neither does Romney. So stop with that argument. You can blame Romney for being rich all you want. But that isn't what makes people not like Romney.

Romney's problem is that he just can't sell himself to the public. Obama is a master at that. And that will probably be the difference in this election. I guarantee you that Obama will give one heck of speech next week at the DNC. And what will he say? Oh, I bet it will be exactly like what he said in 2008, and that is what irks me about him. He needs to quit with the great speeches, get off his lazy arse, and get things done. That's what he said he would do. He promised to get Republicans and Democrats to work together. Hell, he can't even get many in his own party to agree with him. So how on God's green Earth will it change in the next four years. And would Romeny be any better? I don't know (at this point) if he is, but I am leaning more towards giving him a shot at it.

I really don't care if we have a Democrat or Republican in the White House. I just want more good paying jobs coming into our country than leaving. I personally know people who have Master's degrees (MBA's, Education, etc) who work retail cause they cannot find work at all. They have all this education and they can't find the work, and so they work two jobs to make ends meet. That is nonsense! Question is, do I vote to give Obama four more years to show me that he can deliver? Or do I vote for Romney and see what he can do? Honestly, Obama does not stand up against Congress.....he never has. He says he has, but the reality is that he backs down when the going gets tough. His Obamacare was pushed heavily this year cause it was an election year. Hell, he wants to look good so yeah...I see the strategy. But what else is he doing? What else can he do? Or will he do?

I want to hear him speak next week. And, I want to hear what the DNC leaders will say as well. I honestly believe that if Obama had more of a backbone he would have achieved much more. Trust me. When he took office, I wanted to see that same guy who delivered the speeches that made me believe he could achieve so much. And yet, he simply hasn't. My vote is still undecided (even though I am leaning towards Romney now). Obama will have my full attention this coming week. Hell, the DNC will have my full attention. Ultimately, I just want whomever wins this election to hunker down and get our country back on track.

the argument that Mitt is out of touch comes from his OWN statements,, his background is a rational 'excuse' for his condition,, otherwise he would just be pretty dumb

so, his background ALONG With his statements is what causes me to believe him to be extremely out of touch with reality.

As far as Obama, how many presidents have been 'farmers' and what has that to do with it.

He grew up with FIRST hand exposure to struggle via a struggling single mom and struggling parents and a financial struggle throughout college.

I believe OBAMA is more AWARE And IN TOUCH with what it is to actually STRUGGLE than Romney does or ever will.

President Obama did the stimulus package and pushed through health care during his early years and he seemed to feel "done" for awhile. I know his "handlers" finally had to tell him to show the public that he felt their "pain" and promise to do more to create jobs etc...He was heavily criticized during this time and he did start to seem "insensitive" and out of touch...He finally "regrouped" and started to show more (supposed) caring and concern...Obama may have faced some struggles growing-up. But he and Michelle have done okay for themselves and became part of "well-to-do circles" during their "rise to the top."...Many wealthy people are involved in charities or community projects. But this doesn't necessarily mean that they really take everything "in.".. They go home and "hobknob" with their circle of "rising star" friends...I used to volunteer to cook meals a few times a week at a homeless shelter. Most of the people who came to cook (and work) sincerely cared about homeless people and treated them with respect. (And a lot of the "actual workers" were minorities or poor people or average middle-class people who just wanted to help out.)...Some "well-to-do" people and rather snobbish church people showed up every night too. They did as little as possible and "ordered" the "actual workers" (the volunteers) around...And worse some of them seemed to view the homeless people as "heathens" or "sub-human." Before I quit I gave a few of these people a "piece of my mind!"

good for youflowerforyou

I dont mean to imply that wealth is an automatic indicator of ignorance.

or lack of wealth an indicator of lack of ignorance

there are wealthy people who go out of their way to make sure their kids 'earn' everything they get

there are also struggling parents who go out of their way to 'give' their kids everything

its much more about the actual EXPERIENCE and LESSONS, than it is the dollar amount

but from Mitts background AND the opinions he has voiced himself, it SEEMS, like his experiences didnt have much of an educational influence on him where the topic of 'struggle' is involved,,,

Ok. The moment Romney took center stage as the guy who would earn the RNC nomination, Democrats started to talk about how he could not relate to the "common man". Why do you think Ann Romney's speech was about making him more "human". Sure, he isn't a common man in that he doesn't have every day financial struggles. But he is still a human being....a rich one....who wants to be President because he believes he can fix things. I mean...isn't that the basis for wanting this job?

My point about talking about farming is that most people feel Obama has more in common with all of us that Romney does. Fact is, neither do. And, I am ok with that. I want someone who is smarter than me about economics, foreign policy, etc. Sure, I do my own homework on issues. Do I know it all? Hell no I don't. But I expect that my elected leaders do and will do everything they can to work on those issues. I just find the argument about Mitt being so out of touch not so important. If this guy's plans for America appear to be better than what Obama proposes, then I am all for it.

Now, I want Obama to accomplish two things in his speech next week. Sure...take all the shots at Mitt and the GOP all you want. I expect that. But I also want to know how......HOW HE IS GONNA FIX THE THINGS HE SAID HE WOULD FOUR YEARS AGO! I don't want another "I am a uniter" speech. Been there. Done that. I want the Obama who is smart enough to do something about the problems we face. I believe him to be a smart man. I also believe him to not be strong willed enough to handle Congress. And if he proves me wrong, then cool.

Ummmm, no matter what he says it will be a lie. He has had four years to do somehting about the mess were in and he has done nothing but make it worse. Unemployment his higher, the deficit is higher EVERYTHING he promised he has rarely delivered on and in his own words if he didn't fix everything he promised then he wouldn't have a job in four years.

Who has created more jobs then Obama could even dream of not to mention Romney had to make ALL of his own money. He was only given an education from his father, he had to earn the rest himself. The guy has built and revamped a ton of successful businesses and created business models that businesses around the glod use. He has been more successful in his life and has helped more people then Obama could ever dream to be.

I voted for Obama in 2008 but became disillusioned with him after awhile. I don't want to vote for Romney. So I'm kind of in a "pickle" when the Nov. election rolls around.

I wasn't a die hard Romney fan, he was actually one of my last choices but anyone is better then Obama. The more I am learning about him the more I like him. I don't think he's perfect and I dont like a lot of his positions but I think he can fix the financial mess that Obama has only made worse. Plus I work for a company Romney and Bain actually fixed and it is a damn good company now. Before Bain and Romney's business model the company was literally in ruins and going under and closing stores left and right, now we are opening new stores almost weekly!

Imagine what he could do for our economy and businesses I think it will be pretty amazing.

Hmmmmmmmmm, I was waiting for the big shock the Paultards said was gonna happen at the convention with their skewed delegate math to a surprise win they were saying would happen with Paul.

Just shows how insane they have been.

Hey if you're okay with the RNC having to outright cheat to win, then that just shows everyone the type of person you are. And what's that say about Romney anyhow? I imagine you don't care, as long as you're on the winning side.

No wonder you proclaim a "winning record" when picking the president. You lost Cain and Newt, now you act like you have sided with Mitt the whole time. It's easy to pick a winner when people cheat for him and you already know the answer.

Wow, here you go again putitng words in my mouth. Once again, I never supported Romney and never called someone to win. Would I rather see Perry or Newt? Hell yes. The only thing I called an exact was that Paul would not get the nomination.

Romney is better then the alternative so hell yes I am going to get behind him and support him and after seeing what he has accomplished I feel better about supporting him.

I wish we had different candidates to vote for in this "race."

So do I but we have to play the hand were dealt.

You don't understand the term. "Silver spoon" means his wealth came from family wealth. Mitt Romney made his own wealth. Until he did, he did not live a wealthy lifestyle.

Having a two parent home has nothing to do with a "silver spoon".

let me repeat a TWO family home with the provider being an automotive CEO

AUTOMOTIVE CEO,

who could send him to a PRIVATE SCHOOL

and who then became GOVERNOR

who could EMPLOY him on his campaign and in his office (built in POLITICAL/GOVERNMENT references/contacts)

he didnt have to STRUGGLE,,,with those built in networks and resource he was BORN INTO

That is simply not true. Romney spent the majority of the time his father was Governor as a missionary in France, not employed rkingfo his father or making political connections. The time before he left as a missionary diring his fathers term he was 15, 16 harly focusing on making political connections or working for his father who is Governor. Hell when his father ran he was 14 or 15 making ot impossible for him to work for his fathers campaign full time making the political contacts you claim or the paycheck you claim.

Just remember he had Congress and the Senate for two years and got nothing accomplished, that is why the people stood up to him and took Congress away from his and his cronies.
