Topic: Keyboard typing wierd characters!

A friend of mine just called me last night to complain about her laptop typing characters different from what she pressed on the keyboard. I've told her to check her language settings and sticky key settings. Haven't heard from her yet but if anyone got another solution, kindly help out.

Check her font setting. She may have it set to "wingdings" or something.

Sounds like she opened a chain letter or unknown user and downloaded a virus. Probably want to use a malware program and see if you can get rid of it. How true it is I don't know I had a professor brag that if people tried to down load his bogus cheat sheets he sent them the so called answers and a nasty virus.

I would tend to agree with you on this diagnosis, Its happen to me after catching a rather nasty virus on my computer. It then started typing in letters I never pressed making my sentences look like garbage.

Before jumping to conclusions and fearing the worst, what did she do to make it type different? Is it in everything she does or specific programs such as her web browser or IM program? She could have switched languages, fonts, etc. Has she updated her computer, added devices? It could be a funky driver. Please provide a bit more detail.

I think that pressing the 'alt' and 'ctrl' buttons can cause this. Perhaps check that those keys are not pressed down.
