Are you continuously praying for wants/needs? Think about it, do you pray for frivolous things?

Most often when I pray it is the old standard "Now I lay me down to sleep..." I think it is an elegant short prayer that says everything.

What I think I am trying to say in this half-baked thought of mine is: I feel like I have been so blessed I feel "wrong" asking God for anything. Unless it is something big like curing me of cancer (I do NOT have cancer) or something.

So what do you think? Are you overwhelming grateful for Jesus in your life, do you not "see" your blessings, or am I being vain in not asking for anything? I don't think I'm vain, I think I'm happy with what He has given me as my lot in life. But then again vain people don't know they are vain.

Somehow I think this post came out wrong and I'm not sure how to articulate what I mean. So nobody flame me, sometimes my brain stumbles!rofl

Honestly at times, no I do not ask for God for every little thing. At other times, I ask for everything under the sun that is on my mind.

IMHO It is okay to pray to God to ask for whatever you want, you just have to understand, he will say no sometimes. For me, more often than not.

Also, it does help knowing that he is there to listen to you and your problems and hear your requests when sometimes there isn't another ear to turn to ya know?

Prayer is an important part of my life, sometimes i pray in words and other times in a song. In both good and bad times i commune with God. And yes, i do pray for a few needs in my life but it aint an everyday routine. Whenever my spirit is low and I'm troubled, i go into my prayer closet and pour out my heart to God, not only do i talk to God but i listen to what He has to say to me as well. Honestly after such a closeness with God i come out when I'm refreshed and good to go.:)

Some scriptures about prayer:

1 Corinthians 14:15, "What am I to do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will pray with my mind also; I will sing praise with my spirit, but I will sing with my mind also".

Psalm 95:2,"Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise!"

Psalm 66:17, "I cried to him with my mouth, and high praise was on my tongue".

James 5:13-14, "Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise. Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord".

My prayers are usually thanking God for what he has given me. I do pray and ask for things, but nothing I would consider frivolous.

I commune with God all my waking hours. I ask Him for everything & pray about everything. Once I asked Him to teach me to pray and I woke up to Him saying to me 'Pray scripture'. Agreeing with the Word in prayer builds & speaks out faith.

Praying the Scriptures

Here is the perfect foundational prayer.
It gives honor and praise to Him
and places His will above our own.

Jesus said:

"After this manner therefore pray ye:
Our Father which art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done in earth,
as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our debts,
as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil:

For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory, for ever.

Amen."

Matthew 6:9-13

This is the prayer I most often use.

to me, "the squeaky wheel gets the grease" is a way of saying "ask and you shall receive". unless you make your wishes known, no one will know what you want but you. we teach our children to talk, so they may be able to communicate their wishes to us, so we can act on what they say. to make things happen, God spoke and it was so. you, as a father, (i am guessing) may already know what your child needs, but when that child expresses a need or a want from you, doesn't it touch your heart? as His child, your wants and needs are never frivolous, go ahead and ask your Father, i'm sure it will touch His heart

That is commonly known as the Lord's prayer. Actually it is an outline for prayer. It teaches us what to pray for. The Bible states in James 4: we have not because we ask not. Praying is a privilege. It is best to ask for that which He wants us to have. I should pray more often and I am working on it. Hence my screen name, Fixingme. It is what I do and what He is helping me do. :)
