The Kare11 has confirmed that the construction being done was only resurfacing - nothing structure related. Thus, the constrcution should not have caused this. Investigators still

things that have been ruled out.
* Terrorism
* earth quakes & tremors

the last I heard 1 dead, the workers on the bridge were just supposed to be fixing some potholes. if that is correct information then the bridge would have collapsed regardless. ((((((((((prayers for all)))))))))

Hey all I didn't see this thread last night.. so I created one in the news area... I am from Minnesota... I don't go down that way much any more... but one of my best friends lives just 6 blocks away from the bridge and was at home when it happened nobody really knew what was going on at first....

the construction was nothing major just repaving it and filling in some holes it was due to close down to one lane last night... we are soo used to constructio around here I guess we don't stop and think about it...

the last report that I saw on tv was that they now have 4 confirmed dead and 79 injured there are still 20-30 people missing but that is just an estimate.. they were not allowed to start searching the water again until 10:45am central time because the remaining portions of the bridge were still shifting...

if you want to read any of the updates.. I put links in the news thread or you can go to www.startribune.com which is our local news paper they also have photos as well...

there was a report that back in 2005 the bridge was reported to be structurally deficient by inspectors.

I saw that, but they are trying to say.."Nobody pointed out or told us that anything needed to be fixed immediately"...Even I understand what structurally deficient means for christ sake!!!!!!!!

Let's wait until the thing collapses and kills god knows how many people and then knit pick the definition of "stucturally deficient" OMG!!!!!!!!!! Sickens me how people can't take responsibilty for their own stupidity sometimes!!!!!!!!!!

grumble grumble grumble

I have to cross a bridge almost every day, if I want to get to civilization (I live in MO, and it is a MO river bridge). My kids cross that bridge every day to get to school. People who aren't used to the bridge tell me it frightens them, and I just laugh, "Bridges don't just COLLAPSE!!!" Anyway, that is great about the kids in the school bus, that they were able to walk away.

It's unreal. I live 20 miles from it, but I am resisting the urge to become a gawker.

All the human stories coming out of this are wonderful. I am glad the local press is focusing on the human factor and saving most of the finger pointing for later.
