Is the internet slow and the programs are fast or is EVERYTHING slow?
If everything is slow and it happened all of a sudden, it could be that: 1. Virus, Spyware, Malware 2. Your anti-virus program if you have one is doing a scheduled scan 3. Your computer is overheating 4. Disk fragmentation, Registry errors, limited Hard drive space If your computer is still slow after being turned off for a while, then it's most likely Viruses, spyware, or malware. If your computer has gradually become slow, then it is most likely #4. So does any of these match up? |

If your computer is slow and unable to perform a system restore, that has nothing to do with Chrome. Is your system overheating? |

I have ran spyware, malware, and virus protection, and its all good.
The whole computer has slowed to a damn near halt. I tried turning the computer off and then waiting and turning it back on...no results...so its not too hot! I have done defragmentation, and disk cleanup, and ran my CC cleaner and cleared all browser history. And I have 40% space left on my hard drive. My fans are working and its not hot! My virus and malware protection scans are both completed. Now what? |

Your Hard drive may be going. I would get an external HD and back up everything you want to keep.
Try reformatting the HDD and reinstalling Windows, that may help, but if the HDD is bad, it's like putting a band-aide on a severed arm. You may even be better off just getting a whole new system. Have you been hearing any noises when it runs or anything else that's not normal, other than it being slow? |

I could probably come up on a new hard drive fairly cheap at a computer warehouse store we have in Sacramento. It will be used, but thats about all I can afford. Thanks for the help totage. I wish I had you closer for all of my computer, and other, (did I say that outloud?), needs! I would run too if I were you! |

They are fairly inexpensive now a days. It sounds like that may be the issue. You may be able to postpone buying a HDD right away by reformatting, but I don't think it would be a long term fix. Have you checked the disk for errors? |

I feel about 62 some times. lol I still can't get over the fact that I can remember when my aunt was pregnant with my cousin. I can remember holding her in my arms, and now she's in middle school. She's very smart, and has a good head on her shoulders. I'm actually quite proud of her, but watching her grow up makes me feel old now. lol Not to mention all the nieces and nephews I have running around. lol |

Go to your processes from task manager and close everything out except SYSTEM processes and explorer.exe
You may have 50 - 100 or more processes. Once you reach around 30, it should be much faster. If that solves the problem, go to msconfig and turn off the unnecessary services/startup programs. |

This may help to check you disk for errors.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315265 The amount of processes you have running is most likely part of your problem as well. You'll want to end all processes you're not using and disable them from start up. This article may help for that. http://www.techpavan.com/2009/03/16/slow-system-slow-windows-xp-performance-solution/ |

It's ok if you close out the wrong one. Anything you close out will be restored when you restart your computer.
You mentioned that there's a lot of running processes right? That's most likely the problem. Close out all of them except SYSTEM and explorer.exe and Network. This may be different between OS's. First try closing out everything with your login name except explorer.exe Do you have skype? I would be much easier if I just told you which should be closed out. |
