Topic: Have you been judged by your cover? | |
---|---|
I have been turned away from even writing because someone thought I was too liberal with my moniker being what it is. Really? Yes I am liberal on some issues, but very conservative on others as well. That is why I have a hard time voting, neither of the normal two candidates represent my views.
As far as being judged, I prefer to shoot my foot myself. At least that way they've read some of the book. |

People judge others for all kinds of things. Unfortunately, that's the way life is. Everyone does it at some point.

People are judgmental, just like any other intelligent creature. Yes, we all judge a book by its cover, whether we choose to admit it or not. The key is how we handle our judgments. Do we act on them? Do we discard them?

Just don't give up writing.
Harass them if necessary with your submissions. |

I like your name Oldhippy. Being liberal or conservative or in the middle is just who we are. It makes the world interesting. Btw, I get judged all the time, but I actually dont care about anyones opinion. IJDGAF lol.

I have been judged by my cover but then I stopped wearing a life size playboy centerfold pull-out as a suit and the judgement stopped.

Of course, hasn't everyone? Occasionally though, you find people who still take the time to get to know you, or who won't judge you on anything but what's inside.

Just because one judges, doesn't mean they don't take the time to get to know some one. Not everyone makes the best first impression, and many people can be easily misunderstood, if you don't take the time and make the effort to get to know them and understand them. |

I didn't mean everyone did that, but there are quite a few who do. not everyone will take time and effort though. Judging someone on a first impression, and then making the decision not to take the time to get to know the person or understand them, is worse,to me anyway. |

No matter who you are, it happens so frequently. If someone only judges you by appearance, are they even worth talking to? I'd pick a big fat no. Ha ha :) I normally prefer to see what's inside a persons mind, first.

Yes, and sometimes I do something ditzy that fits the blonde cover/mold. But friends who know me well also know my mind can come up with some strange food for thought every now and then

we all have and we all will, it’s the very basis we use to choose the people we allow close to us, or (in some cases) keep our distance from. it is simply human nature.
the thing i find interesting is any time this comes up, we invariably get a few that claim not to; but honestly, weather one disguises it as “a feeling i get” or an “intuition” when fist meeting someone, it’s all the same thing…passing judgment. |

I agree with Blueeyes, not everybody takes the time to get to know people and then judge them. I used to get a first impression from others and even though I didn´t judge them by that, I was hardly ever wrong. Time proved me I was right most of the time... I just don´t know what happened to that "gift" or "6th sense". (Sure it would have come in handy when I met my last boyfriend, who was a jerk!!) |

I hate being judged in a job interview. Those are the worst.

It is frusterateing for sure. I just kind of take it as if someone makes a decision not in my favor that it is their loss.
I have had a couple of "gentleman" flame me for posting photo's of my Grands without ever reading any of the gazillion posts I have made about being careful who you bring around your children or knowing how vigilent their parents are. If some people have a perception's or belief's no matter what you say it is not going to "convert" their thinking. When I saw your monicer and conservative picture I just took it as a cute screen name rather than a political or lifestyle statement. People "our age" were called hippies if they had bangs or even a hairstyle that dusted the tops of their ears at one time. lol Then I tend to check out a person's posts and see what they are about rather than making a standing judgement from a first impression. IMHO Anyone that has done that about you would find you a very interesting person and they were really lucky if you showed interest. |

I hate being judged in a job interview. Those are the worst. Yea that can be a real hard thing. I have known people that were such decent people but they just didn't have a "look" that made them real marketable to the public and it was so tough trying to get anyone to even interview them. Biggest reason even though I like body art I try to discourage it in certain areas because it really gets people a lot of discrimination. Moving around as a military spouse I really ran up on it a lot when I was useing a wheelchair, and or crutches, or a cane. If I got on the job I could/would usually work circles around peers but more than once I just went in stores and started "working" the floor to get that first job locally. Once I had a reference then I actually got job offers. |
