When you are content, you are happy with what you have....so yes, they do go hand in hand but that doesn't mean you want to become stagnant because then you won't be content anymore....(seems a little like a vicious circlelaugh )

As people, we are constantly changing and growing so our goals change along with us and we strive to meet them. This doesn't mean that once you have something that makes you happy you will toss it aside for the next thing but that you will accept the next small challenge life hands you and you try to succeed with that.

(As Charlie Brown says: "Happiness is a warm puppy" but that never stopped him from trying to get the Little Red-haired Girl!!)bigsmile

Happiness is an emotion. Contentment is a choice. That's the difference.

Meow?

Contentment is not an emotion? Care to expand on this?

Why are you meowing at me? Did I offend? I just said what I thought. If love can be a choice, why can't contentment? We choose our attitudes.

Totage, you`d better change your trend. You come across lately in more than one spot on the forums as a self-bloated ego-fanatic who thinks of others as sht, and you express it freely.

Don't make me poop in your shoe. :P

Ooh, bad kitty, shame shame. bigsmile

Totage, did I explain enough? I mean, I know I hardly explained at all. . . I just think of contentment as more of an outlook on life, the result of an evaluation of where I am, where I want to be, and what I consider possible.

To go with the feline model . . . happiness is the cat eating her favorite dinner. Contentment is the cat purring in your lap.

Sorry, Basement Cat made me do it. lol

Ooohhh, I get it now. :P

It's always interesting to see others perspective on things. I think it's important to be open, and at least put in an honest effort to understand the way others see things.

One can be content with what they have and where they are in life but still not totally happy with it....

I feel one must be happy with themselves in order to be totally content with where they are and themselves..

Happiness must come within in order to enjoy the things around them... and be content with the way things are....

One can find happiness within things but unless they are truly happy with themselves those things will be short lived...whoa

And it's okay to be content but not be totally happy with it as an end result...otherwise, where would the drive to do, see, explore, invent and expand your horizons come from?

Happy is the crux, though...you need to be happy. No one else can make you happy but they can sure pull you away from that state. Find your "half full" glass and hang onto it for dear life! It matters!

I couldn't be happy or content with a half full glass if I knew I had to hold on to for dear life. Perhaps I should learn how though?
