If it turns out there's any oil up there -- next week.

Otherwise -- it'll be a long time. Government interest in manned space exploration seems to have disappeared after about 1972. The only things humans do in space anymore is get blown up in the defective shuttles.

I'm hoping China or the European Union will take it upon themselves to do something about manned exploration of other planets, since it's clear the US is too wrapped up making enemies on this one.

Why is it that some people feel the need to hijack every thread into a political rant. There is a forum for that and it's not this one.

I believe we will eventually explore Mars, perhaps in the next 20 years but we will do a lot of unmanned exploration before we send humans. The logistics of an extended space flight are huge. I think the first step is the completion of the space station. Then the necessary materials and supplies can be brought there in preperation for the trip. To launch a payload big enough for a trip to Mars at one time from Earth would take more rocket than we have available I think. When it comes, I think it will be a joint venture between several nations.

Lex!! You are Da Maaaan!!!

---------

But that aside. I cant see us running anything to Mars in the next 100 years.

Unless we find a way to cover the 56 million miles in less time than 6 months, I dont think that we could ever run something like that successfully.

Even radio waves used for communication take ages to get there.

So, if something went wrong we would not be able to find out and rectify it in time.

I find the concept of real space travel fascinating and it worries me that we have enough problems on our own planet without kicking the crap out of someone elses!

Native, my darling, love of my life, reason for my very existance, my little ship of the desert, a Venetian comes from Venice ... hes probably some hot Italian stud muffin!!

A venusian is a littler, greener shorter version of a martian, who is always right!

Woman didn't get the short end of every stick. At least God gave them handheld massaging shower heads

Belushi...Love of My life...wind in my sails and reason I wake up every morning...In fact...he is a martian because he seems to already know the golden rule that us venetians are always right!!!!!!!!!bigsmile

You martians need us venetians to always guide you in the right direction...even if it's kicking and screaming...If you would just stop struggling so much...It would be alot easiergrumble

Yes in fact I do love my massaging shower head...The greatest invention god made by far!!!!!!! bigsmile
