GREAT GOING FLORIDA
ALL States Need This, Especially CALIFORNIA and Texas THIS IS FOR REAL......LAW GOES INTO EFFECT JULY 1st !!!!! It's about time!!!!! HERE WE GO!! Great going, Florida You set the stage for the other States to join! Kudos to Republican Governor Rick Scott for having the correctness and guts to move forward on this critical issue! I-95 will be jammed for the next month or so........ Druggies and deadbeats heading North out of Florida. Florida is the first state requiring drug testing to receive welfare! In signing the new law, Republican Gov. Rick Scott said, "If Floridians want welfare, they better make sure they are drug-free. Applicants who test positive for illicit substances won't be eligible for the funds for a year, or until they undergo treatment. Those who fail a second time would be banned from receiving funds for three years! Naturally, a few people are crying this is unconstitutional. How is this unconstitutional? It's completely legal that every other working people have to pass drug tests in order to get a J-O-B which supports those on welfare! Let's get Welfare back to the ones who NEED it, not those who WON'T get a JOB..... I AGREE!!!! 100%....and you like me probably just paid taxes and damn near choked. |

Your gonna hear things ranging from it will not work to it will cost more than they are paying out. I agree that every state should do this, nothing unconstitutional about it. The rest of us have to submit drug tests to get a job to pay for these people and if you get hurt on the job workman's comp makes you take a drug test so why in the hell shouldn't they have to as well? |

I get VA Medical. Every so often, they do blood work and UA's.
If, mine came back dirty, I would not only lose my VA, I'd get arrested. Bet your a$$! Screen all who get da' welfare. Those dope smokers and users think they will always get a free ride on our dime. |

We need this in california!
Badly! This legislation may very well save people from killing themselves with drugs. |

I came back from Nam with a "habit"...carried it a long while after my return. My kids saved my life... some values dope just can't compete with!
25 years after defeating that demon my life still sucks, but I'm alive to talk about it. I don't believe in prohibition, the drug wars, the resulting police state and the violations of their actions, criminalizing instead of educating or "healing" options, the profits to those who deal in the death and sickness made possible by said prohibitions.... That said, I agree with this action! Too many "mothers" taking food from their children, too many people too busy "making profit babies" to look for work and selling drugs.... It's a Phucked up world we live in, and only have ourselves to blame! Stupid voters, for profit politicians with their hands out to the corporations and special interests, too many TVs and journalism has been replaced with propaganda. Next time anyone needs someone to blame, look in a mirror, most will find the guilty party looking back at them. |

Every job doesnt ask for a drug test, because they cost money. Its completely at the discretion of the employer. workmans comp is paid out for injuries that werent SELF INFLICTED,, obviously, if one is hurt while using drugs it is their own fault its not a childs fault if their parents dont have an income that can support them, and quite frankly, there are already safeguards in place to make sure parents are being productive,,,, this is just another waste of taxpayer money by people claiming to be upset about wasting taxpayer money,,, and another attack on women who society most often 'expects' to be taking care of the kids |

Another attack on women and another attack on the poor.
The average congressman 'makes' 174K a year. He is paid with our taxes also. I hardly think any of them are earning it...do you? If were going to test the poor then we need to test the rich also. |

Hell, you can burn your 2 year with a lighter and he can show CPS and tell them you did it, and they'll still let you keep your kids, with no food, no lights, etc. I've seen it myself. |

Drug use is much more common than you might think. You'd be surprised at how many drug dealers are on welfare, let alone users. |

I cannot believe that anyone is willing to argue against this process.
If the recipients are so unlikely to be using, then there shouldn't be a problem. If they aren't then there are many low cost or free opportunities to help them get clean. I'm not suggesting that it's easy to beat a drug habit but they sure aren't going to get off welfare if they aren't clean. Oh yeah...in part because they can't GET a job without being drug tested in most places - even for minimum wage jobs. To say it's otherwise is just not true. Frankly, I think there should also be a certain number of community service and/or public works hours per month required as part of the welfare plan. It's not like there aren't tasks to be done out there that are otherwise falling by the wayside due to budget cuts. I'm not against giving someone a helping hand or the proverbial leg up, and they shouldn't be against doing the right, fair and honest thing as their part of what should be a SHARED responsibility. |
