Obama: 'New York girlfriend' was composite

"In Dreams from My Father, Obama chose to emphasize a racial chasm that unavoidably separated him from the woman he described as his New York girlfriend," Maraniss writes, offering a passage from the book in which they go to see a play by a black playwright:

One night I took her to see a new play by a black playwright. It was a very angry play, but very funny. Typical black American humor. The audience was mostly black, and everybody was laughing and clapping and hollering like they were in church. After the play was over, my friend started talking about why black people were so angry all the time. I said it was a matter of remembering—nobody asks why Jews remember the Holocaust, I think I said—and she said that’s different, and I said it wasn’t, and she said that anger was just a dead end. We had a big fight, right in front of the theater. When we got back to the car she started crying. She couldn’t be black, she said. She would if she could, but she couldn’t. She could only be herself, and wasn’t that enough.

"None of this happened with Genevieve," Maraniss writes. "She remembered going to the theater only once with Barack, and it was not to see a work by a black playwright. When asked about this decades later, during a White House interview, Obama acknowledged that the scene did not happen with Genevieve. “It is an incident that happened,” he said. But not with her. He would not be more specific, but the likelihood is that it happened later, when he lived in Chicago.

Obama lied, by implying that one of his past girlfriends was a racist. He described an incident, which he now admits "happened, but not with her". So we are to believe that he dragged her name through the mud to protect some other woman? What kind of creep did you guys elect?

wait,,,so because one woman that went to the theater named 'Genevieve' didnt have this scene with Obama, it never happened with ANY girlfriend he took to see a black play.......

His "New York Girlfriend" was Genevieve Cook. This incident is described never happened between him and Genevieve. She said it didn't happen, he now admits it didn't happen. What he wrote is a lie, regardless of if it happened with another women.

ever READ The book ? which states in the preface that he took certain artistic license to describe 'composite' characters as opposed to referring to individuals SPECIFICALLY,,,,,?

Okay, when you write you life story, we will have a battalion of editors and fact checkers standing by to make sure you got all the names and dates right.

How do you think Genevieve felt to read what he wrote about her? Does it matter that she was just mashed together with some other girlfriends, "for the sake of compression"? Is this Obama saying that his girlfriends were all "typical white women"? Of course you see nothing wrong with this, nobody is surprised about that.

I'm not an egotist, I don't feel the need to write two biographies about myself. Two and counting...

So far as I know you haven't been elected to the office of president of the United States either.
So even if you did write it I doubt many people would want to read it.

Since he didnt mention her NAME in the book, I imagine she may have thought he was talking about someone else

I dont disparage those who choose to write biographies, particularly if they pertain to significant issues , like racism in college years or hope in political years (OBama)

or if they are about a 'world transformed' and all the notes and afterthoughts afterwards (George H W Bush)

he wrote a second book(Ten years later) after being chosen for senatorial nominee,,,

both were pretty significant and environment changing events which he was warranted in visiting in his memoirs,,,
