You ever felt unappreciated at work?

I feel that way all the time. I am a 911 dispatcher and I feel like a lot of dispatchers are uinappreciated. We are behind the scenes but we still have a very large part in emergency management. The job is super stressful and the hours can really suck.....I'm feeling...blah.

Sometimes. But most of the time the residents let me know that they love me. It is very rewarding work.

I chased my tail answering call lights all night. It was like Christmas with all the call lights going off. I bet you get a bunch lights on your display at work. How many times have you been asked what the number for 911 is?

LoL I'm going to have to say i've never gotten a call like that. I have received one asking me if there was some sort of police entitiy that is the equivalent to Robocop though. That was pretty interesting to say the least.

Well- your bosses might not appreciate you or know what they have- but we appreciate you- Ya'll are the first line of defense. Ive been in the Medical Field for 30 years- you guys have the most stressful job- but if you werent around giving advice and keeping callers calm- think of the bedlam that would be there for the EMT/Paramedics or police!!

I think you guys rock! and I thank you for being there! flowers

I like to answer the phone with, "The number you have dialed is not in service at this time..." but nurse knows my voice and doesn't buy it. Last night, I answered Gangrene instead of Green Wing and the nurse told me hurry up and help her with a resident.laugh

Are you an EMD only or all? I do all...police, fire, and medical..I prefer dispatching more than handling the actual calls but i guess we cant get everything we want eh... winking

It's also sad that there are people that abuse 911 by calling about idiotic things like they're unhappy with their service at a fast food place. Huh??

I normallly tell the abusers and prank callers that I have an awesome mapping system that tells me exactly where they are and where the police will be heading if they call again.

I've only had to use 911 once, but I sure do appreciate how helpful that dispatcher was in sending help as quick as possible. You may be behind the scenes, but you still have an important job to perform, and lives depend on getting calls dispatched as quick as possible.

Until then I never really gave much thought to 911 or anything, but it made me feel a little safer knowing that help is available when I need it.
