then it will become somthing like a jungle
instead an intelligent and educated debate
even politicians who hate each other have to have a protocol of speech.

If the new United States authorities would finally desist from their arrogance and decide to converse in a civilized manner, it would be a welcome change," he said.

Oh so true, when Fidel finally does go I wouldn't look for too much of a change until the brother goes too, then MAYBE.

First of all...

My mother is Cuban. She is also 1st generation American.

She didn't come here on a raft...or smuggled into this country.

Knowing my grandparents as well as I did...and having numerous conversations with them about Cuba and having visited Cuba myself a few times...

It's a beautiful country, full of beautiful people...including Castro.

Just like in this country, the media only reports the half truth...and never shows the good that has come out of his rule.

The people of Cuba love Castro...for the most part. Just like the people of this country voted in Bush. It's the same sort of thing.

Personally...lifting the embargo on Cuba would be a very good thing. Cuba is a beautiful, culturally rich country to visit. And it would bring in goods to this country that would mean profit for the capitalists. It's time to lift 45 years of noncommunication and stop acting like babies...come together in a climate of change and work on fixing this for the good of BOTH countries.

And on a side note...

Since was does having a different opinion...or perhaps a negative one dictate that you are unintelligent?

Soy medio cubano mi amigo. My mother came here from Santa Clara when she was 35. My oldest brother was born there so I hear my mother's complaints regularly. Castro? Give her a gun and a plane ticket. She will take care of the rest. I never knew my grandparents. They are gone neow. They had four drycleaning shops and were doing well but were thrown into poverty and a ration card when the government took everything they had. Bush may be a di*k head but we don't have to watch what we say to avoid the minders and imprisonment or as many have, death. Not the guy to get into this conversation so I will walk. Sea feliz amigo.frown

We do have to watch what we say to avoid imprisonment and death...

You can't say that you want to kil the president and get away with it...nor can you voice an opinion and expect someone to over look the fact that you're a human first, and perhaps a person of importance and stature second.

Look at what happened recently with the ACLU and Ward Churchill...

When I was in Cuba.....the general public were too afraid to voice their opinions about Castro.....in case they were fired from their jobs. I learned that most couldnt afford to even get basic medicines like tylenol....all sold on the black market.

Yes, it is a beautiful country, but very oppressed. Even their mail is monitored!!! Who loves Castro???? ummmmmm Everyone???? because if they don't they are persecuted!!!

eve
i may have used a wrong wording
different opinions when are stated in the proper manner are intelligent and acceptables.
when i come out saying things like Castro sucks (just as an example) nothing positive will come out from that.
the way u post it even though i may disagree with u.
It's well stated, clear, and backed up wit facts.
that's all what i'm asking

Well Miguel...even the opinion that "Castro sucks." can be well worded and backed up...lol

Castro sucks because he made his population fear him and feel small.

Castro sucks because he didn't help, but only hindered the communication between Cuba and the US.

Castro sucks because he smokes a cigar.

I mean...c'mon.

once again u said it eve
castro sucks because...
when u say because and add facts it's an acceptable opinion
however, when u just say castro sucks
we can't learn nothing out of that

Fingerpaint, Castro is a murderous thug. He rules with an iron fist. Yes, you will find some that will side with him. They are the ignorant ones with their heads buried in the sand. The young in Cuba who have been sheltered from the outside are beginning to break the brainwashing via their ability to see the world through the internet. You are wrong. Most Cubans see Fidel as a roadblock as much as they see Washington in the same way. There is a groudswelling of a new revolution. People instinctively want to be free. Did you venture past the tourist area? Without a minder nearby? I would guess not. They take a dim view of visitors roaming freely. My mother, being Cuban, had to struggle to get to her home town to visit family. They spoke freely when no strangers were around. What a guy that Castro, eh? el asesinar tyrant

Zap...my mother's family is Cuban as well.

No country is perfect. Some people might say that Bush is a murderous thug too...

When I visited Cuban I strayed from the tourist areas...and of course I wasn't alone. I don't travel in THIS country alone...lol

You could pick apart any country's ruler...but Cuba is a hot button for so many people. I'm not saying that we should forgive and forget...or anything of that nature....

However...if they're willing...why not sit down with them and open communication instead of spending another 45 years in silence.

Even the Cold War ended...

I am out of this Miguel. Can't argue with someone who has no clue beyond the tourist areas. No ration cards there. My uncle was arrested for being in an illegal group (debating Castro)and my family never heard from him again. Not going so far as stating will for assassinating a head of state but you don't have to. People disappear there. Regularly. My mother has many letters that were censored when she got them. Cut up with scissors to remove the bad. A few more years will change your view on your hero. Can't wait to tell my mom about this one but at 82, it may end her.
