(using music..easy metaphor)

I'm 43 living in a college town. Most of these kids (pardon condescnension) are SO delightful, wise, and really well versed! Some aren't. Some of the older adult professionals are...and aren't too!

I'm glad to talk to these fine young people about Bach, Beethoven, Black Sabbath, Beastie Boys, or Barbara FN Mandrell!!!.....BUT, tend not to date very much younger OR older these days ("TEND"...not a rule)

SO, this is not the typical ageist question....YAWN!!!!...2 criteria: Consenting, Adults!

I find it much nicer to date within a pool of similar experience (almost) regardless of intellect and insight!!!...

....aside from "meant to be lightening strikes", don't you?

Hahaha....the fact that I didn't even mention anyone born after 1975 says so much!!! Was just trying to spit out the idea.

I don't really date men who are much older. I prefer close to my age or a bit younger.

The 'wrong' music IS a deal breaker....

...and when Nirvana plays, and the response...."OMG Takin it back old school"

Or

When Marvin or Etta plays, and the response...."OMG who's this?"

It might be a deal breaker.

I guess I'm talking about familiar vantage points that comes with people who have had familiar and timely experiences.

I mentioned this on the other threads. Maybe I'm missing something but I don't run into this. People who I meet who are in, are just in, period musically speaking.

Tonight I was at Zia records (their open till midnight) and by chance they just put out Pink Floyd Pulse in the dolar rack. Well, I bought it up (extra copy) along with 20 or so others. When I was at the counter this young gal (maybe 20) said "I have this in my CD player in my car right now". We talked (her mostly) for ten minutes about how cool this is and some of the other live stuff from different times. I mean I had to be the oldest guy in there by far and these kids were asking me about being on tour and stuff. They were very hip and up on their music. When I was leaving one of the guys that works there said "hey man how you doing, your the guy that has the music rooms?". He's going to go through stuff tomorrow and call me if any gems come up old school or new.

I hear people talk about these division walls and I believe them but for some reason it doesn't enter my life much. When I turn on a piece of music on my systems no matter what the crowd or what the music I usually get "wow cool".

"Wow Cool" will ALWAYS work for me Bro! In fact it's one of my favorite things!!!drinker ESPECIALLY when "I'm" saying it!!

Perhaps that's not true. Because I LOVE to "witness" discovery probably more than anything!

...but....even though discovering any music is Universal, timeless, magical....there is "something" so unique about shared stories about discovering similar jewels in similar timelines!

Yep, I agree. I make it a rule not to date much younger or older people either for the vary reason you stated. I play in a band that does dinner music and when the bandmaster wants us to play some oldies but goodies; the younger musicians whine. Its quite funny actually but they are getting paid to play.

I don't know, I've enjoyed learning new musical tastes from different people, older and younger. If I like it, I've incorporated it into my music, and if I didn't, I learned that it didn't really do anything for me.

I date based on intellect not age. Peers don't really seem to do it for me though. I would prefer someone older but it truly doesn't matter to me right now. But having the same tastes in music without it being such a cultural shock is important to me. For the most part anyway, he HAS to dig Radiohead. Most of the bands I like tend to be underground anyway.

Both are great guys and i have learnt so much from them...but after having experienced both the younger and the older...welllllll...ima sitting on the fence on that one
