I was going to start a new thread about this, but this seems like the appropriate place to post in. Any suggestions about what to say in first contact e-mails? I never know how to break the ice?

Ah, the Mysteries of Life.

I've written eight books and several shopping lists, and I STILL can't produce a first e-mail that ever gets a response. So I don't even bother anymore.

Views, 20 or so a day.
Emails, I normally have 4 or 5 a day, but that is after changing my profile to married, so I really only get emails now from people who don;t read my profile, or people who are happy to just make a new friend.

Just for the sake of interest I wish to know what kind of & how many responses do you people get on mingle2.

The people who views your profile, who invites you as friend or express their interest in dating, are they usually up to your expectations?

If I put up a boobie picture, I get tons of views and a few emails.

No boobie picture equals no views and no emails.

It's pretty much the same for me.

Number of views goes up when I put on new pix......but, soon taper off. Doesn't really matter though...I got the woman I want so it wouldn't matter if a thousand cows were checking me out. Still, I see it as complimentary. (like a good eye humpin)

Why do people sign up on a "dating" site with no expectations???

Speaking only for myself here. By expectations I mean I do not "expect" a given result.

A lot of people join up, then throw a fit because no one writes to them or answers them or pays attention to them, then they get butt hurt and leave or toss up a complaining post somewhere. There is a great belief among many that the simple act of being present/male/female/whatever entitles you to a set number of messages/nudges/requests/whatever. And that is simply not the case. I don't expect anyone to do anything here, and do not base my presence here upon it. If people write to me, then so be it, fantabulous! If not, that is fine to.

It is not the end of my world.

Sir,"Only for yourself" or "lot of people"?

It looks like he described what some others do and is saying that's not what he's like, which is why he has no expectations.

You are right,singme.

Every month I get a few interested people who say my profile rocks, I get some who ask me incredibly dumb questions, I get a nice share of hate mail for comical reasons. The rest is made up of those whom I am friends with and we banter back and forth.

Also that one guy who wants to know what kind of mice I like to eat. (You sir, are just plain odd)

I do get some nudges, but for the most part ignore them since frankly I find them somewhat rude unless I know you already. I get plenty of views. Some friend requests.

I have no expectations. I find that too limiting and confining.

This is just another way to meet people. Do I think that everyone I chat with is going to want to meet me? No. I just go with whatever happens.

Not having many active locals doesn't make it easy to meet new people here, either. That being said, I have had the chance to spend some time in person with some completely awesome people from this site. Most recently, a good friend a couple weeks ago.

I really wouldn't have any problem responding to someone who actually gave me something to work with. But the "Hi" and "Hello" and "Sup?" e-mails always turn out to be from scammers, anyway, and I'm past the point in my life where it appeals to me to have to generate both ends of the conversation.

I agree Lex.....

Other than e-mails from some folks I have become friends with...
I pay no attention to them. But I don't get many anyway.
Friend requests from anyone I have interacted with in forums will generally be accepted....but not from others.
Nudges are ignored.....if she can't type a few coheriant sentences....a wink aint gonna get my attention.

It's a red flag for me when "she" sends me a message that is so generic, so non-personalized, that she literally could send the same thing out to everyone in the world and it would be just as applicable.

Because it usually ends up being the first step on a stairway that leads to "Come and see my private pics! Only $24.99 a month!" or some such idiocy.
