What are your favorite westerns?
Do you prefer Spaghetti westerns or revisionist westerns or perhaps more toward more traditional/"classic" westerns?

Personally a fan of Spaghetti westerns and of course liked all of the Man With No Name films with Clint Eastwood.

Moving onward... I liked the re-adaptation of 3:10 To Yuma and want to see True Grit. Unforgiven was another good one and a nice deconstruction of the genre.

The Proposition is just plain a phenomenal film in general. I'd recommend it to anyone for a good film, but advise that it's graphic and heartbreaking.

I'm very particular about my Westerns. I have to be in a mood (which is rare).

A few I have in my collection....

Spaghetti...

A Fistful Of Dollars
For A Few Dollars More
The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly
Four of the Apocalypse
The Great Silence
Once Upon A Time In The West

Modern...

Young Guns
The Quick & The Dead (Raimi's version)
The Proposition
The Assassination of Jesse James
Sephrim Falls
The Three Amigos (it could qualify though)

Can't stand "The Duke", or most of Eastwood's non-Leone westerns.

I liked all the Westerns with Trinity in them. Torgo has one of them listed with "My Name Is Nobody".

I really like "Vash The Stampede" even though it is an anime western.

Cool. Actually I have 2 of them

Terrence Hill and Bud Spencer were a great duo.

I always say that the list of good westerns starts at "Once Upon a Time in the West." Between the vileness of the villain, the use of a pair of anti-heroes, a good story, cinematography, and musical score, it's a tough one to beat.

Torgo compiled a great list as well, I might add "Open Range" to that, as well as the only musical that is acceptable for a man to watch: "Paint Your Wagon."

I just saw Jarmuish's Dead Man, the bean eating scene is second only to Blazing Saddles. I always feel compelled to make beans afterwards, but the are never as satisfying as they are portrayed in movies. I also tend to walk around for a week saying, "stupid f'ing white man"

This applies kind of loosely, but since mixed genres are there, I'd also list Near Dark.
A modern vampire film, but with subtle western elements. As per usual, Lance Henrikson was awesome in it and oddly so was Bill Paxton.

That reminds me. I have a bootleg copy of a film called "Sundown" also kinda like a vampire/western.

And starring the one & only Bruce Campbell! Haha.

Roy Rogers! LOL. I loved him almost as much as Trigger when I was a little girl. Then I grew up a little and fell for Paladin.

What was that short-lived show Bruce Campbell was in with Comet the Wonder Horse? I liked that.

For movies, Blazing Saddles, Cat Ballou, and Bite the Bullet come to mind. Not to mention Silverado and . . . da da dum . . . Butch Cassidy. I could watch that a million times.

Just watched Sukiyaki Western Django last night... strange but I guess I liked it.
Pastiche films can be a lot of fun. It's something I loved with Brotherhood Of The Wolf/Le Pacte des loup.
