I'm desperate and hoping someone can help.

My youngest dog, a Lhasa named Barkley, has a skin disorder. He has seborrhea on his chest which is worse in the summertime. The glands on his skin overact, which causes the skin to itch, which causes him to scratch incessantly, which causes the glands to overact. And so it goes.

On his paws, he has psoriasis and the skin is flaky and itchy, too.

Add that to a chronic ear infection and he's pretty miserable.

The vet and I have tried EVERYTHING. He's been on prednisone (which I hate to give him)... he's had three different kinds of ear medication. I've switched his food, I've given him baths four times a week with and without medicated shampoo.... I've rubbed his hot little skin with rubbing alcohol and it just comes back with a vengeance.

He's such a good-natured little guy and doesn't complain (much). I'm hoping some homeopathic-minded JSH'ers or someone who's had the same thing happen to their dog can offer some advice.

Hi. I had a collie/chow/shepard mix and she had terrible skin. My vet recommended Mycodex. It is a medicated shampoo made for dogs. It was a God send! I bathed her 1 a month with that and had next to no problems. Sorry it's not natural.

Good Luck!

You might try tea tree oil, mixed with some water in a sprayer- i wouldnt use alcohol, the drying effect just makes the skin worse. My lab's whole rear end was raw from the constant chewing and scratching, and the tea tree oil, and a thin layer of bacitracin worked wonders- i never thought that hair would grow back- just take it easy on the bacitracin, because they tend to lick those spots so much, you can buy/borrow an elizabethan collar until it heals/ they dont like it much, but it keeps them away from it.

another thing that might work is witch hazel, it has a very low alcohol content, and is all natural- soothing....just call the vet for an ok first no matter what you try...good luck :)

I thank you.... Barkley thanks you!

I'll give these great suggestions a try. I'm about at my wit's end and I hate when he's so miserable (not to mention that I haven't had a full night's sleep in weeks....)

Appreciate it!
