Hi guys...

Can anybody tell me how easy it would be to get a well renovated car of the above types, and what I would have to pay for it?

Hey, c'mon, guys... You don't really want me to ride my little snoggingball on an American highway, do you!? ;)

I drive a '95 Smart Roadster these days... I don't want to have that brought over...

A well renovated late 60's or early 70's Mustang would run between 28 and 75 thousand at auction in the states.
This in terms of restored original or show cars.
Less renovated but good ones can be found under 20 thousand.
Good luck!!

Do yourself a favor and get a newer one, 05 and up.
You can get one for less than twenty grand and it will be a whole
lot safer and more dependable than an old one.

I'm not too sure about newer being more dependable. Older ones also have WAY more style and will hold their value (if not gain more).

You're still talking about a forty year old car that who knows what somebody has done to it. Style yeah, but are you looking for an investment or daily driver?

There's a WHOLE LOT less to go wrong on a 40 year old car. Even with a 5 year old car, for the most part, you still don't know what somebody may have done with it. Even plenty of brand new cars are often going back to the dealer on a regular basis because things are wrong with them.

Yep. And if they still made cars like that, I'd have to find a new career!

Yeah, we don't have much choice than to stay up on the newest technology (and constantly giving up different appendages to buy the tools that go with it). Then there's always those people out there who think we're bending them over the workbench when we charge them $65-75 an hour. Luckily, I don't really 'miss' old school cause I have quite a few customers who still have oldies (and I own the monopoly of them in my town), so on occasion I still get to put my paws on things like points, generators and front drums. laugh

I'm an Hd wrench so I know what you are sayin. I work on the FE crap to make a living......75 to 80 per. But I see all the old school regulars every weekend.
Mine are all O/S.
I don't dabble in new cars.....but Old school I keep my hands in daily.

I don't realistically have much choice other than to wrench on newer cars. Cars from the 80's are even getting a bit scarce, let alone pre-mid70's (especially because of the 'Cash for Clunkers' a few years back). Being here in the 'Rust Belt' REALLY lowers that numbers (other than maybe for toys), so all that coupled with most of the stuff made now is crap, the majority of what's coming into my shop is late 90's-mid 00's.

I have a 69 SS 396 Chevelle I have had since 75. I am always tinkerin with it.
still got the 73 Ironhead sportster I bought in 74.
Got a 99 Superglide drag bike.
I do have a 2010 Ultra Classic which is FE. Love the ride but hate workin on it.
Cost me 3500 just to read codes. Another 4500 for software to do mods.

That Chevelle is a keeper!

A FEW of the ones I have in my line-up right now.... '69 Camaro that I bought in '92 from the original (woman) owner. '70 Chevelle that I got in '96 from the original owner. '73 Monte that I bought around '95 (I just recently declared it DOA and retired it). '74 Corvette that I bought in '94. '81 Camaro that I bought in '90 (kinda hanging in limbo now after totaling it for the 3rd or 4th time). '75 BMW 530i that I bought in '99. '79 Camaro that I bought around '95 (I'm now in the process of a complete frame-off with TONS of one-off mods). '83 Firebird SE with some T/A goodies that I got in '93 and hopefully this summer will get around to transplanting around 350 horse into it. I had to let this one go years ago, but my favorite of the 80 or so cars I've owned was a '64 1/2 Stang. sad

The Sporty, well, at least it should keep your driveway sealed. laugh

A few of my 2-wheeled toys...

'70 HD Rapido (just cause it's neato)
'70 CB750 that I've had FOREVER and has more bells and whistles than a Caddy (including a sidecar).
'79 XS650 that I got from the original owner and is my regular rider (plans to bump it up to 750 when time allows)

Yeah, those new cruisers have a nice ride (they better for the price!), but working on 'em sure ain't the same as they used to be.....

more like Thelma & Louise - still looking for Louise ;-)

A new BMW would probably be a possibility, even though I would prefer an Audi, if it comes to German cars - but it really is about style here... And what use is a car who's main feature is a top speed between 150 and 200 mi/h in a country with a speed limit at 70? Apart from the fact that riding an open convertible beyond 70 is... Let's say less fun!? I am aware that an old car is... Old, and will cost more in upkeep than a new one... But happily that will not be the limiting factor for me... Main problem would be that someone might dent such a baby.

I have to admit, when it comes to cars, I'm not the usual, levelheaded woman - I pick them more for the looks. As I said, I'm driving a Smart Roadster Coupe right now

Audis are 'OK' (Especially if you can afford an R8), but I prefer BMWs. They seem to be a bit more sporty to me. Of course, if you're a fan of German engineering like I am, you can't rule out MB.

The R8 is a great car, A lot of my colleagues go for one... But I think it's not MY car, too boasty, too flashy. Like I would never drive a Ferrari... I rather like the understatement type of cars, I MIGHT have a look at An Aston Martin DB9/DBS, if it has to be Italian, I might look at an Alfa, or, in the higher segment, at a Maserati Quadroporte.

I personally don't trust BMW, apart from the fact that I don't like the style of the new ones... They were trying to put too much gimmicks in their electronics lately, and they had the cutest malfunctions... MB is (after a long time of building shoeboxes instead of cars) going up in design, but the star still holds a "Retired!"-sign for me...

If I stayed in my current job, I might go for a VW Scirocco (not sold in the US, I saw), but the heck... What use is money if you don't spend it? ;-)
