I have lived in this house for over 21 years now and I have heard random noises from my basement for a while. This is nothing that I can put an explanation to, like a knocking from the oil burner or something but it has been few and far between.....until lately.

My daughter came over to help clean out the basement a few weeks ago and did a pretty good job throwing things out. The next night a can that was in a "plastic bag dispenser" fell out and bounced down the flight of stairs. It had to go up and over the side of the plastic holder but nothing else had been touched in the holder or fell out.

Last night, I turned out the lights and then came back out to the kitchen to get a drink but when I was in line with the end of the wall where the basement door is around the corner, I heard the door get pulled closed and a bag hanging off the handle was moving.....the door has a slide lock on it and doesn't rattle at all when you press on it. The slide lock WAS locked so there was no way it could have been opened from the other side and nothing was in the bag that could have rattled it.


I think we disturbed "someone" in the basement.

its the BOOGYMAN? lol i hear noises all the time in mine only cause i sleep down there it sometimes wierd but ya know what most of them are till u hear a new noise an u have no idea where its coming from

Not just a noise, Kerry, this knocked something down the flight of stairs and moved the door...

do this try moving the stuff on the stairs an i seen this on some shows heard it works put flour or something on the stairs maybe u can see foot prints or something like that?

If there was an animal down there, we would have seen it and made it run while we were down there. There was no animal scent or nest down there..

hmmmmmm maybe set recorder or a video camera down there one night is it still making the noise?

In a house my ex and I rented many years ago, we heard noises in the attic. Never really paid them any mind.
One weekend we were exploring up there and found this cool Old antique chest.
We cleaned it up and brought it down stairs.
That same night we heard walking, knocking and creaking noises all over the house.
This was a 130 yr old farm house.
This went on for 3 nights.
We put the chest back up in the attic the fourth day.
That night it was.........
Quiet in the house!!!!!!
I don't mess with stuff.........anymore!!!!

The noises only happen like once every six months, these other things have happened in the three weeks since we cleaned it out. Nothing has been moved down there, except for the can falling down, and even then none of the bags in the holder were knocked out.

There is an old hope chest down there that has been there since I bought the house.....I have never opened it or done anything to it in all this time... I'm thinking that might even be there after I move out of the house.

from watching those type of shows on tv ya best bet is for a week to set a recorder down there or something try an put something some where where only u know it was there if its been moved then u will know there something down there..

This is good advice. I would set up a recorder at night and see what happens. But ya need night vision on you're cam. most modern cams have a setting for extreme low light.

Kerry....NOTHING has been moved down there!! I know where I put things and nothing has been changed around, but a door that was LOCKED TIGHT got "closed" from the other side...

that scarey i still say try the recorder or something just to see what else happens even when ur not home ya never know

I agree with the other posters who said set up a cam or recorder.

Sounds like maybe there was a disturbance
in the force when ya moved things around.
Go down there, light a few candles,
say a little prayer and talk to "them."

i get the same thing in our home. Part of it is over 100 years old and we hear things as well.

the camera should work. we have taken pictures before and it shows images that are unexplained.
