43 states have a concealed firearms carry permit. By getting a permit in something like 6 states you can be covered in all 43 through reciprocity. If you travel a bunch Id do this, If you do not travel at least get one in the state you live in. Always have the weapon on you, and keep your situational awareness level at full alert. Train with the pistol, the really bad criminals are prepared so should you.

Thirty years out here staying in 1000's of Motels and never Have I had what this happen,,HAPPEN,,lol I'm watching HBO,,a knock on my door,,I look out the peep hole and see a short younger looking guy,,I open it to a small ten inch open and he says he stayed here lastnight in my room here and said he thought he keft his cell phone there? I asked,,like no not that I've seen he said it might be behind the nightstand and I said I'll check,,I re-closed my door went and checked and no,,nothing but a pipe,,drug tube,I believe,,I took it and went back to the door openned and said I found this? And then said there was nothing else there,,HE THEN ACTS LIKE YES there is,,and looking a bit intense,,as trying to come on by me,,well I THEN steped all the way out my door,,it shuts and locks and I'm like fking words and said come-on,,and started walking toward the way back to the desk,,about 100 feet on this inside hallway,,,he folowed twenty feet back,,I went to the desk with his story,,and she then asked him his name,,and when he had stayed,,he then said two nights ago,,and the room wasn't in his name it was a friends,room,,and she told him their precedures and then I had to ask her for another key,,as I walked out w/o it,,HE LOOKED HARMLESS,,BUT,,he was wanting to rip me off or hurt me to get whatever I had,,he left and she then told me she had seen him hanging around here before,,and so she called her boss and told me if he comes back,,to give her a call,,and she'll call the police...I said,,I had thought this Motel was nice and had stayed here before with nothing like this ever seeing here before,,so I"M LUCKY,,because I really believe if he would have gotten to come in here,,he had something of gun or knife to rob me with,,and YA SEE,,I THOUGHT,,I was a good guesser of people and as he looked harmless,,HE WAS NOT,,SO beware folks,, Pleasant attire and clean cut looking people,,CAN STILL KILL YO,,sheesh,,I need to REALLY not trust anyone our here... Being a trucker here,,I would have to have a federal gun permit,,and THOSE are almost impossible to get without being in law enforcement or Gov. or know a federal Judge,,,Interstate travel with a hand gun,,is a federal conviction if caught or found on your person or vehicle,,and forbidden on almost every Company I go to? SO its a ink pen in an eye or a flaming can of spray in their face,,,lol but thanks for this thought/

I gave it to the desk lady,,,as I said well THIS isn't mine,,so here, but she and I talked here around Christmas,,about my kids and grand kids,while I was having morning coffee,,so she knew I was a good guy,,,other wise maybe even more would have came from me turning that in,,,lol,,and yes,,,times out here worse everyday.

Ohio in particular looks down on it's armed citizens. Recently a police officer lost his job in Ohio, because he was caught on tape threatening to kill everyone in a car and claiming that they attacked them, simply because the driver was legally carrying. It wasn't an isolated incident either. I'm all for everyone (adults without criminal records or a history of mental problems) being armed. The crime rate would drop so fast, it would cause whip lash.

It was always difficult enough for a Trucker to get a carry permit. Since 9/11...it is vertually impossible to obtain. It requires a permit reserved for federal law enforcement. Never intended for the general public. A CDL holder in the US today....Is in for a long prison term if caught with a conceal. The Idea of permitting in 6 of 7 states does not work anymore. There is NO grandfather clause. Terry, you are right on in you're opinion. Flaming areosol....Tire thumper....or some martial arts are all we got in our line of work. Gotta keep that suspious keen eye open all the time. Be smart about where we park, and watch our 6's. I only drive local now...but into some bad areas every day. Ya gotta be smart and observant ALL the time!!!

Yes, please be VERY careful about this. You absolutely cannot get a CCW permit in LA County. LAPD and LA County deputies are, for the most part, very much against individuals having CCW permits. It's very odd to me as generally cops are a fairly conservative bunch. But, in this regard they have bought into the lie that individuals should not be armed.

Thanks for the advice Ghost and I've been lucky,,but see,,the bad guys pick the older ones to miss with feeling they can't do as much back to them,,,lol,My son's a cop,,and I told him,,the older I get ,,I telling ya,,the MORE I'm going to be getting out of this truck,,and work local and get a handgun and permit,,Because I will NEVER be to damn old to Shoot someone,,,lol I've watched and read for ever,,the punks who hurt the elderly and I say,,shoot um,,IN THE HOUSE,,but SHOOT UM---BANG- BANG,,,lol When I'min my truck,,hell,,I notice a rat running in front of the truck,,,and parked,,any movement of it,,has me looking,,,

This kind of door to door harrassment in "affordable" hotels is a lot of the reason I don't travel like I used to. And when I do I ask for someone to walk me to my room and rarely leave it after dark. . There is no way in heck I would answer the door to anyone with out identification and probably not then if they weren't accompanied by a cop. What irritates me is the number of hotels that provide discounted vouchers to the homeless agencies and write off the difference on their taxes. And the agencies that rent hotel rooms for people who clearly have repeatedly abandoned their houseing rather than live by the same rules the rest of us have too. I ahve cut off a couple of charities and now designate my offerings at church for it. A growing problem in senior communities are kids and grandkids that just come and sqat in their homes when they are not home and sometimes even when they are. Maybe they are just that desperate for guests but when these cut rate chains rent to people they know have just cashed a welfare or disability check and will stay only long enough for the money to run out then will be pan handleing the guests don't get my money no matter how cheap they are. It is no wonder more and more hotels have bed bugs. I never was one much for carrying a weapon but I don't think I would even consider driving truck without one or somekind of protection. But then I think the things the cops are afraid of are not the truck drivers but the trucks rolling over their little sub compact cars. lol Terry you stay safe Sweets!
