I have a friend that once was on both of those. She abused them and ended up in the hospital and came close to dying. he lungs filled with fluid, and got pneumonia. She also drank. She spent a week in the hospital. Doctor said that if she wouldn't have been rushed to the hospital when she was. She would have died.
She is now off both of them, and don't drink any more. Praise God.

I also had a friend who abused prescription pills and alcohol. I say had, cos sadly his suicide attempt worked. I remember a particular night, where we were both drunk, and were then at his house. He was acting not himself all night. In fact, he was acting as if he wanted me near him constantly. I asked him if anything was wrong, he denied it. I seriously wouldn't have minded listening to whatever was on his mind, but he was from a family that never talked about their problems. Anyway, hours after i'd got home, his mum rang me. She told me he passed away. Makes me wish i'd never gone back home that day. It's just a damn shame, really.

Taken in the right amount and for the right reason pharmaceuticals are more safe than overdosing on them. But to addict who self prescribes the ideology can become if one is good then two is better. The disease can progress where one is never enough but a thousand is too many. That is why they are called controlled substances because even doctors and nurses are not immune to narcotics overdose. The scare of the Prozac Nation is that people can get into the habit of taking a narcotic just like an over the counter medication not realizing that it can alter one's moods. When the USDA and FDA relaxed its standards due to public opinion which was altered by the big drug pharmaceutical companies greed controlled more than the FDA and USDA. Even the drug lingo of scripts is on the records of nursing homes and hospitals more often then prescriptions. The commercialization is evident even in liquor and drugs with commercials on television. One example is "Drink Responsibly" since many view alcohol as a drug because technically it is. It has gotten to the point that since some of the control is take out of the hands of the USDA and FDA the consumer is actually the final judge. Which goes along with normal business practice since the customer is always right.

We should probably wait for the toxicology reports. Who knows what she took or how weak her heart was from years of drug abuse. Alcohol poisoning can kill without any extra drugs at all.

Just talked to my Doctor about that!
Alcohol, plus a strong Tranquilizer, plus being in a Tub of Water equals Recipe for Disaster!
Sad,for anyone to go like that!

I think saying it's their own damn fault for being an addict is a bit harsh. Most addicts don't want this life for themselves. Sometimes they can't overcome the demon..
we all know addicts and or alcoholics who trash their lives.
I have know many throughout my life.
Some live, some die...

I would never be so arrogant as to make some assumption or judgment on someone's addictions and the challenges they have from it.

A big ego is the blame for many drug addicts.

Sure sounds a lot nicer to say she died of "prescription" meds than a crack or heroine overdose.

She made her choices.

No one forced her to use anything.

A big ego is also to blame for anyone
who thinks they have a RIGHT to judge
anyone else, drug addict or not.

No they did not.

Free Will is a two edged sword.

But you miss the picture.

Where comes the light, comes also shadows.

Were there not many about her...

That cared not for the Singer but for the Gold.

As with MJ.

Such a talent is surrounded immediately upon recognition with parasites.

I give an example of the sickness.

People with so little respect for the dead they would snap pictures through the windows of the Hearse.

for a bit of gold.

Yet these pale next to one that would feed such a mix to a client.

Knowing it would eventually be fatal.
