I've had two dates with a guy I met on another site. I like him and the feeling seems to be mutual. However, it's not at the passionate stage. This is okay with me for the time being, but I'm hoping for more. Not sure if he's not quite over his divorce, is a little shy, or isn't really attracted to me physically. If he turns out not to be my next great love, that's okay. I could definitely appreciate him as a friend.

So under the circumstances, should I send him a (low-key) Happy Valentine's Day greeting via e-mail? Or would that give the impression that I'm pining after him? At this point, I'm not sure if he even wants to be pined after. What do men think when they get a valentine from a woman? I'm not good at reading minds.

You're over thinking things. Send a quick happy valentine's day note if you want.

I personally don't see a problem with it. I send happy Valentine's greetings to friends, family, guys that I'm getting to know..but I don't see Valentine's Day as exclusive to just the one you feel romantic about. I send flowers to my mom, give presents to my children, cards to my friends...for me it's about the ones I love..not just the one I'm in love with or whatever. I think it's a nice, friendly gesture. Like you said, just keep it low key, don't go overboard and I don't think he'll freak out. In fact, it'll probably be nice for him to know that someone is thinking of him today, since he's just gone through a divorce.

But I'm not a guy and hold no pretenses on thinking I know how they feel about things. So take what i say with a grain of salt.

Hope it all works for you! Happy Valentine's Day! flowerforyou

Remember how when we were kids, Valentine's Day was more about letting people feel special, be they a friend, a relative, or someone we had a crush on? It was about more than just romance...

...But romance is big business these days. Look at all the commercials for flowers and diamond jewelry around Valentine's Day. All the romance movies played on cable leading up to Valentine's Day. Etc.

Valentine's Day is only what you make of it. If you don't buy into all the commercial hype, then it can have the same meaning it did as a child.

Men like to feel special and appreciated too. Even as friends.

The trick is to find an appropriate way to express that. If you do that, and someone reads more into than intended, that's not your fault. You did what you could to avoid miscommunicating how you felt.

Just because someone reads too much into it doesn't mean you shouldn't attempt to express yourself. What kind of life is that?

It is a day that reminds you to hold on to the love you have. To show your love. It can be wonderful and special, you never know when it can be taken away from you.

Men like to feel appreciated! Sometimes I get too much on the "men are sooooo different and unknowable" bus. Maybe I am overthinking. Thanks for the good advice.

Yes, I would send him a valentine's day email.

You're not declaring your undying love, you're just letting him know that you're thinking about him.

I wouldn't send anything FIRST.
Men can read into anything around
Valentine's Day.
Halloween is okay.

Interesting.

It just so happens that he sent me one a little while ago. So I guess that's solved.
