Who is truly foolish? He who is merely blind and is willingly guided by the hand of spirit or the sighted man who blindly guides?

The Parable of the Rich Fool
Luke 12:13Someone in the crowd said to him, "Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me."
14Jesus replied, "Man, who appointed me a judge or an arbiter between you?" 15Then he said to them, "Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions."
16And he told them this parable: "The ground of a certain rich man produced a good crop. 17He thought to himself, 'What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.'
18"Then he said, 'This is what I'll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. 19And I'll say to myself, "You have plenty of good things laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry." '
20"But God said to him, 'You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?'

I apologize for the redundancy of verse 20 in this thread. I believe discernment is best served by the entirety.

Bravo Spider,

but of course this had to come from the only reasonable, logical person on JSH. From the only person who isn't a stupid idiot, because you certainly share your own opinions. From the only person that never ever called people liars, schizophrenic, jackass, sad Panda and other names. From the only person open minded enough to say that you are always right.flowerforyou flowerforyou

And don't tell me again I hate you, you are not worth any feelings of mine, I'm just having a good laugh laugh laugh

Saw this in the current events, also, Spidercmb. Sorry, but if anyone read you previous posts in this and other threads, they'll see insults aplenty. You've insulted writers(not their posts) right and left. A fairly simple rule, my friend:You give, you get. You cannot insult people, and get offended when they do the same to you. That'd be like you and I playing a one-on-one game of basketball where I had to follow all the rules and you didn't. Kinda lopsided, ain't it? If you disagree with my(or anybody else's)posts, fine. Feel free to say why you disagree. That's what we're all here for. But there's a difference between attacking the post and the poster. A lot of people(including me) actually enjoy reading your posts-when you've got something constructive to say, which is most of the time. But no one likes to be insulted personally. To be honest, I don't look at these as forums as much as I do "roundtable discussions", just not in person. We should all treat each other as if we were indeed sitting across from each other at that roundtable. That's my opinion, thanks to all who read this

OK folks - let's all calm down here before it gets out of hand.

First, I want to make clear that Spidercmb's original post is absolutely true and actually a rule of JustSayHi - you may attack the message, but not the messenger. We encourage free debate on all manner of topics as long as this rule is followed.

That having been said, calling someone a jackass is clearly a violation of that rule, as is calling someone stupid or a moron, etc. The basic guidline is you may argue with the CONTENT of a post, but not make a comment on the POSTER.

So, if this:

"You don't see that she's making a joke? Wow. She's right, you guys will take anything and use it as a weapon to attack another person. The cool thing is, she gives you weapons that make you look stupid. "Ann Coulter wants to take away women's rights to vote!" She is a woman and a voter jackass, she was making a joke."

...had been changed to this:

"You don't see that she's making a joke? Ann Coulter wants to take away women's rights to vote!" She is a woman and a voter, she was making a joke."

it would have been fine. You're making a point, but not making a criticism of the poster.

But the "make you look stupid" and "jackass" crossed the line.

Again, though, what spidercmb is saying regarding attacking the message and not the messenger is absolutely true. I just wanted to make sure everyone is clear on what that means in terms of our rules.

Hope that helps. And let's continue to keep a civil tone in this and all topics.

Thanks,
Mike

I absolutely agree Mike, I often have been on the receiving end and handled things without reporting. I will from now on obey the rule by the word and report every single incident.flowerforyou flowerforyou

Just to be triple clear, there are a lot of other people on this thread who have also crossed the line, so although I used spidercmb's post as an example, I could have used posts made by many others including a bunch in this topic. And I applaud spidercmb for making the original post. What he is saying is absolutely true. I just wanted to make sure it was absolutely clear to everyone what our rules would require.

What I wonder is this: Why on earth does it seem that someone has any right to "attack" anything?? Message or messenger.

If I post something; I welcome all rebuttles, but DO NOT welcome attacking of any such part.

As far as I am concerned; attacking is beneath any of us here. We are adults: Are we not? State an opinion or disagree politely. Otherwise....don't.

Through desire a man, separated himself, seeketh and inter-meddleth with all wisdom. A fool hath no delight in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself. When the wicked cometh, then also cometh contempt, and with ignominy reproach. The words of a mans mouth are as deep as waters, and the well spring of wisdom as a flowing brook. It is not good to accept the person of the wicked, to overthrow the righteous in judgement, A fools lips enter into contention, and his mouth calleth for strokes.

Mike:

I agree. This was a thread that needed to be posted. There are people who at times "attack" another poster with insults. I guess I've been guilty of that a time or two myself. If anyone has ever been offended by anything I've said to,or about them in any post, I offer my sincerest apologies.

That being said, Mike, I think the reason Spidercmb's posting of this has so many people up in arms is the fact Spidercmb has been, by far, the biggest violator of this rule. Feel free to read any of his past posts, mainly in the Current Events section. I'm not always right. Other posters, when I make an error, will point this out, and explain why I'm wrong. Or they'll give their opinion, and say why they think it's better. I respect that, even tho I might not agree with their opinion.

Many here have the feeling that Spidercmb has attacked people left and right simply because they don't share the exact same opinions as he does. And then, when the heat's turned up on him, so to speak, he suddenly cries about the negativity shown towards him, conviently forgetting one inescapable fact-that he's brought it all upon himself. It's like the kid we all knew in school. The one that would punch you in the arm every day and laugh about it. Then one day, when he punches your arm, you punch him back. Of course, he beelines it to the teacher to rat you out, "forgetting" to mention his part in this.

In closing, Mike, while I agree with the post, it does lose a bit of credibility when one happens to see the history of the poster. The best thing for all of us here on JustSayHi(a place I'm proud to be a part of,BTW)to do is ignore this post's writer, and obey this post's writings. We all can "agree to disagree" on any topic in any department, but to do it in a civil, respectful manner. Thanks to everyone who reads this.
