The Invention of Lying anyone?

I don't believe in always saying what I'm feeling. Sometimes people get offended by the strangest things. Things I find offensive they find funny, when I laugh they take offense. Goes both ways. You just never know what will hit someone else.

I try to be considerate to peoples feelings. My old fashioned way of thinking comes out at the appropriate time. You can be PG and still interesting. Takes a crafty individual to pull this off smoothly.

Is censoring one's self out of respect "lying"?

or

Is censoring one's self in this way "actually" disrespectful?

...especially in these times of mass media and connection?

I would never censor myself but I have learned to be tactful when expressing my opinions. bigsmile

If only everyone was. I love of people just say whatever, in the hopes of getting attention, or being the most popular person in the room, both online and offline.

I think you hit the nail on the head as they are attention seekers. I don't pay much attention to that type personally or to what they say. I think this goes hand in hand to the sensitiviy thread that I just replied to. People can really be insensitive towards others and they think they are funny or cool when really they are making themseles look small and petty.

As i've got older, i've got better at biting my tongue. I know my mum was right, when she advised to walk away from fights or arguments.

As I've got older I no longer have teeth to bite my tongue. But just you wait until I get dentures. Have you heard that song by Kenny Rogers, "Coward of the County"? Question is what is the difference in between a good rationalized and justified fight or argument and you run of the mill drama? Peace making can be a real struggle at times I have found. Lately, I have musing this hear no evil, see no evil and do no evil thing compared to let your conversations be just yay or nay. I mean sometimes there just seems to be so much evil to contend with. But then maybe it is just all the dementia I have to deal with. Sometimes it reminds me of a good rocket send off between, "Houston, we have a problem." or "T-minus 30 seconds and counting and everything is A-OK".

Key word being "the truth as i see it"

There is a big difference between what is actually true as in factually true, and what is true in your opinion. I have found many of the so called "tactless" people, are not so much spouting actual truths, so much as simple opinions given extra weight. Obviously anyone is entitled to them, and as such free to share them... but that does not make them facts or truth.

You should always be free to say what is on your mind, but you should also be able to review and see if it actually needs to be said.
