I'm not talking about sex...haha...well maybe that too j/k! I am talking about letting a girl knows that you are interested in her without sounding corny or creepy!? Do women initiate it too? How do I pick up the signs? Personally I had not really been dating until now (there is a reason) so any advice I can get is greatly appreciated!

If it has to be explained, think you don't need it. Each to thier own means.

Compliments, compliments, compliments.

Women always like a sincere compliment. It makes a favorable impression, and gets their attention.

I once took a cue from the New Year's scene in "When Harry Met Sally" because I was really busy with work but was afraid of losing my opportunity with a woman I had been interested in for 2 years.

It sounds corny, but I listed everything I liked about her, including a few flaws that she might feel insecure about, and told her why I liked these qualities. She was very impressed.

It showed I was interested, that I paid attention to detail, that I had the courage to lay it all on the line, and it showered her with a ton of compliments she might never hear from another man.

It also got me that first date.

It didn't last, but we still remain friends, occasionally watching sports with friends and competing in a trivia league together.

You don't need to do anything that drastic, but it does give you something to think about. A sincere, observant, and original compliment can really show your level of interest, and open the door.

Oh, and it's usually a good idea to make them laugh after paying the compliment. It will help them to relax, especially if the compliment catches them off-guard.

Very helpful advice! Thanks a million! I went out to dinner with friends last night and guess what? I got the waitress to give me her email address. She's too young for me but at least I'm making good progress...yay! :)

For sex...... In. Out. Repeat if necessary.

Yes. Chicks initiate all the time. Enough that I rarely ever have.

Can't help you with picking up the signs. I usually don't catch on till they grab me by my junk and drag me home.

The woman above who told you to be direct is correct - a lot of women will take your hints to mean u are not all that interested and you are just being polite - so hinting is usually not effective. Be direct but not obvious and be nice, very nice.

What you did by asking for an email or phone is a good start. I worked as a waitress though and we got that all the time...

Just let her know you're interested and ask her out.

Of course women initiate interest/contact/dates.

I think that it becomes clear when the compliments are just to get something they want. If it's a sincere compliment, that's nice. If they continue to compliment you over and over and over, it starts to become insincere and seems like they just want something.

I never really had that problem. For some reason, a look comes over their face and you just know. Simply face them with it,

"You want to go to bed, don't you?"

Simple straight forward. Always worked for me.

Course, when I got older, I did not care if they got the look or not. If there was no future in it, I am simply not interested.

Now, if they don't have that certain look, I would not so much as say a word.

The short of it, is you have to learn how to listen. A woman speaks with her every move.

A sincere compliment often requires a little forethought. It's not as simple as saying, "I really like this about you." It baits a person into wanting to know more....to test the depth of sincerity. In effect, the compliment becomes a conversation starter, and one had better be prepared to back it up. Otherwise, he will look like a liar.

It also forces each person to focus on the other rather than themselves. In other words, it gives you a chance to get to know each other through the back and forth. Anyone can pay someone a shallow compliment, but to pay a sincere compliment requires a bit of insight. The compliment makes you vulnerable because you have opened yourself up a little to another. Closing yourself off rather than embracing that vulnerability will make you appear insincere. Embracing it instead will lead to meaningful conversation, increasing the chance of finding a common bond.

Conversely, just accepting a compliment at face value or changing the subject demonstrates superficial interest at best. The response is just as telling as the compliment. Sincerity demands sincerity in return, or else it is a waste of time. Even the most genuine compliment can be met with only superficial interest, thereby declaring the intention of the person receiving the compliment.

I'm very bad at receiving compliments. I am used to receiving criticism or nagging, not compliments. So I become placed outside my element. My mind short-circuits as I try to find the barb or punchline. It's a reflex action, not a conscious one. I have been trying to work on it over the past few years, trying to adapt my comfort zone so I don't turn away people who are sincere. It's not easy because I have to fight against years of justified distrust. Yet neither is it right to punish someone in the present for the actions of another in the past. I have to consciously choose to suppress my doubt with each compliment. With practice, it gets easier each time. So not being to "receive" a compliment is on me, not the person complimenting me.

Don't listen to this BS, all BS
Real Talk here woman like A$$ Holes it, you give a girl to much attention she wont be interested or think you are a creep,
You put the girls on defensive make them insecure to be around you to where instead of your proving yourself to them they prove themselves to you

If woman really liked insecure shy nice guys , then this site would have a lot less single men and single women but they don't regardless what woman will say, they like a-holes and like a challenge

You say, "Hello. What is your name?" and she responds with her name and not "DROP DEAD" or something, you have a shot.

You offer to buy her coffee and she doesn't scream "I AM AN INDEPENDENT WOMAN WITH MY OWN INCOME AND CAN BUY MY OWN COFFEE. I DON'T NEED A MAN TO BUY MY COFFEE!!", I would say ask her out.

You open a door for you and she does not shoot the "chauvinistic PIG" LOOK and actually says "Thank you", you might want to ask her out.
