Why not just accept that I feel Paul is too old for the job?
We do, it seems you do not realize we understand, perhaps age is catching up with you.

Personally I will not stop until we have a small government advocate in office, this term, next or until I am dead. I sure am glad RP feels the same way.

We are getting more and more candidates that feel the same way.

Being derogatory against youth and the elderly in the same thread makes me wonder . . .

That's like not driving a car for fear you might get in a wreck.

Fear is what got us where we are. If we give in to fear then terrorism has won!

Well stop wondering and get a clue...it's not being derogatory, it's being sensible....speaking of derogatory, what would you call your comment to me about me?

Be civil!

I support RP and I am 62! Because another person does not, is no reason to be derogatory to their choices in a punitive way by using something so lame as a difference in age as their reasoning!

Please don't join "that number" of RP supporters who act out harshly at anothers differing opinion... it is not becoming, and against any belief set forth by the good Dr's example.

Ron Paul dominates Newt Gingrich in Cedar Valley Tea Party straw poll
The State Column | Wednesday, December 14, 2011

Ron Paul (R-TX), a candidate for the Republican presidential nomination, dominated former House Speaker Newt Gingrich in the Cedar Valley Tea Party straw poll Tuesday night, Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier reports. Mr. Paul pulled in 37 out of 60 votes cast in the Cedar Valley Tea Party straw poll, while Mr. Gingrich received only 5 out of the 60 votes cast for a third place finish. Former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum finished in second place with 9 out of the 60 votes cast.

This was the Cedar Valley Tea Party’s first presidential straw poll. According to the organization’s website, the Cedar Valley Tea Party strives to “convey meaningful conservative change at the local, state, and national levels by educating, motivating and informing the citizens of Iowa about relevant social and political issues affecting them today and in the future.”

Following Saturday’s GOP debate in Iowa, Mr. Paul won a Drake University online straw poll of 1,223 students. Mr. Paul pulled in 35 percent of the votes to lead former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney by 10 percentage points. Mr. Paul’s victory in the Drake University online straw poll was just one of many that the Texas congressman has had since launching his campaign in May.

Mr. Paul’s chances of a first or second place finish in Iowa have increased greatly in recent days. Mr. Paul tied Mr. Gingrich in a Public Policy Polling poll of likely Iowa GOP caucus voters with 21 percent of the votes versus the Georgia businessman’s 22 percent of the votes. In an Insider Advantage poll of likely Iowa Republican caucus voters also released Tuesday, Mr. Paul finished in second place, but defeated Mr. Romney by 5 percentage points.

Nuts Gutwretch wants to use children to break the unions!

Sure, let's subject our kids to hazards they are not prepared or knowledgable enough to avoid. Door-to-door sales? Hazardous chemicals? What of education, where do they find the time for that?

Of course the least of these is including them on to the tax rolls and subjecting them (the parents actually)to the added IRS scrutiny... Sure, let's enslave our children too! We've already stolen/spent their future! CNN thinks it's a good idea too it would seem!

Gingrich: Laws preventing child labor are 'truly stupid'
Posted by CNN's Kevin Liptak

(CNN) - Newt Gingrich proposed a plan Friday that would allow poor children to clean their schools for money, saying such a setup would both allow students to earn income and endow them with a strong work ethic.

Speaking at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government, the former House Speaker said his system would be an improvement on current child labor laws, which he called "truly stupid."

"It is tragic what we do in the poorest neighborhoods, entrapping children in child laws which are truly stupid," Gingrich said. "Saying to people you shouldn't go to work before you're 14, 16. You're totally poor, you're in a school that's failing with a teacher that's failing."

Gingrich then proposed a system he said would help those students rise from poverty.

"I tried for years to have a very simple model. These schools should get rid of unionized janitors, have one master janitor, pay local students to take care of the school. The kids would actually do work; they'd have cash; they'd have pride in the schools. They'd begin the process of rising."

Gingrich pointed to successful acquaintances as examples of the benefits of beginning a job early in life.

"Go out and talk to people who are really successful in one generation," Gingrich said. "They all started their first job at 9 to 14 years of age. They are selling newspapers, going door to door, washing cars. They were all making money at a very young age. What do we say to poor kids in poor neighborhoods? Don't do it. Remember all the stuff about not getting a hamburger-flipping job? Worst possible advice to give the poor children."

Gingrich said his idea would be "making work worthwhile" for children.
*************************

Heaven forbid he would suggest something logical like computer skills, fund raising committees, after school programs or academics.... Nope! let's make them janitors! They don't need time for homework or anything to actually "teach" them something!

Thank you for your comment, it is appreciated...Although I love politics and am especially interested in the upcoming election and discussing "all" the GOP hopefuls as well as Obama and any other possibilities that might pop up, debating and honest discussion seems to always turn into personal attacks and fighting...Because of this, I limit my posts on political threads...I'm imagine others do too...It's sad because I believe everyone has valid points to make and good information to contribute, all of which lends itself to making informed decisions .....Anyway, I'm off topic and I apologize for that, but I did want to thank you for speaking up Sojourning....flowerforyou

Because we may disagree on some things does not make us rivals or enemies.... only individuals with differing opinions. Tolerance and understanding are valuable tools in the learning process drinker

I actually agree somewhat with Gingrich on this. Child labor laws are foolish. There was a time when children were expected to learn to take care of themselves by working as well as studying as children. The various laws regarding the issue should be handled at the state/local level if at all.

Ronnie Reagan was 69 when he was elected, Paul is 76 and, if elected, would be 77 years and 4 months....He would turn 78 during his first year in office....

No problem, but I don't know how you would know about the two Rons and their "compared" mental capacity .....That is a mystery....

There is no direct correlation between age and mental acuity. My grandfather was sharp as a tack at 91. I am getting fuzzy now.

Some people are affected mentally by age and others are not. If RP has no serious health issues, there is no reason he could not serve.

This is the thing that really gnaws at me. People get upset if a candidate is younger, let's say 40's, because of lack of experience (Like the current POTUS) Then the same people get upset if a candidate is has plenty of experience, but is older. You cannot have it both ways, age breeds experience.

By comparing recordings of their speeches, writings, and historians' accounts of them. Rothbard wrote at length about Reagan and there's voluminous literature by various authors about RP.

No, can't have it both way, I'm going for a middle ground...Don't want a POTUS that is too young or too old...and what that means (age) to each individual may differ...
