Topic: Do you believe profiles? | |
---|---|
Lately, many people who contact me tell me they want me to tell them all about myself, rather than them reading profiles because everyone lies on profiles. I've noticed this more and more lately.
Are you like this? When you contact someone, do you want them to tell you things, so that you can check to see if they're truthful? Does this happen to you? Do you find that many people are wary of believing anything in a profile? The latest guy told me that if I expected people to read my profile, rather than repeat everything there, it must be because I've forgotten what I have written. Man, some people are bitter and assume everyone is alike. |

That's one reason why I have song lyrics on my profile instead all about me. If they are curious enough, they will ask. If not. No loss to my nights sleep.
I don't ask them the same thing that is on they're profile. I don't use that as ''ammo'' to prove that what they tell me may be wrong. I may ask how they got to where they were. Past/present relationships. Yada yada. That's if I find them interesting enough to talk to. But, it has happened. Only when I had way too much info on my profile. |
If they're curious enough about what they'll ask? Do you give enough for them to have something to ask about, or do you think they'll just ask random questions?

Curious enough to ask. About anything. I look as Mingle. When I am not of here for months at a time as a bar I visit every now and then. I am the one that sits in the corner and observes others. Throws in my two cents no matter how worthless it may seem to others.
Random questions can be fun. ''Do you give enough for them to have something to ask about'' If you go to a bar/club/or get a approached in public from a guy. Do you think in all honesty, that if they're sincerely interested in you. Do you think you gave them a particular body language to approach you. p.s. Im asking this in the nicest way possible. I dont want you to think Im trying to sound like an ***. Cause it;s not my forte:) |
This is not a bar and I cannot read body language through the computer, so I go about things a bit differently. At least when deciding who to talk to. If I look at a profile and it has nothing but pictures/song lyrics/poems/anything except info about themselves, I will probably skip over it. Things are a bit different if I have gotten to know them through the forums, or am writing to ask them about something in the forums.
Anyway, because I do that, I do expect people to read my profile as well. When they start asking me questions that are clearly answered in my profile, it shows they haven't read it, or they're one of those paranoid people who believes everyone lies in their profile. |

Well, I'm a newbie, and therefore have no experience to go off of, however, I would have to say that I have no reason to question something that a person has put on their profile. I mean really why waste your time in putting it on your profile in the first place if it isn't true? Why not just leave it blank? Call me naive, I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt....just as I would want to be treated.

There are always going to be liars. I just have no reason going through life assuming everyone is lying.

Lately, many people who contact me tell me they want me to tell them all about myself, rather than them reading profiles because everyone lies on profiles. I've noticed this more and more lately. Are you like this? When you contact someone, do you want them to tell you things, so that you can check to see if they're truthful? I never contact anybody first, so I can't really comment on that part. I do find that most profiles are so utterly useless in terms of any real information that there isn't anything there to tell me anything about the person in the first place. "I don't know what to write here" and "Anything you want to know, you'll have to ask" are not exactly "full disclosure" scenarios. Does this happen to you? Do you find that many people are wary of believing anything in a profile? I am sometimes skeptical about what I see in profiles -- I have seen "I'm looking for a intelijunt guy" enough times (let's say approximately seventy billion) to know that what they say they want is often not what they actually do want. Flipping it around, I don't know whether people are skeptical of my profile or not. It doesn't really matter. I mentioned that I wrote some books, and that's certainly easy enough for people to verify. But most of the ones who write me, claiming they've read my profile, obviously didn't read it. So it doesn't make much difference what I put in there. I could claim to be the King of Uzbekistan, and they would still write me, saying "I read your profile and I really liked it! Where are you and what do you do?" The latest guy told me that if I expected people to read my profile, rather than repeat everything there, it must be because I've forgotten what I have written. Man, some people are bitter and assume everyone is alike. A lot of people are never satisfied, and most of them are on dating sites for some reason. |

There are always going to be liars. I just have no reason going through life assuming everyone is lying. This place has taught me one thing for fact..ON the Net,,people DREAM,,there are MANY who write them self as something their NOT? It SEEMS,,thats their biggest attraction to the Net.. And the ones who are real,,and are honest,,you come to SEE that and know that THROUGH their words and actions,,each day that you read them...MUCH better,,than ASKING them for ANY answer's,,for a liar,, IS A LIAR,,,lol,,and asking WILL NOT CHANGE THAT! But truths of their character,,will always SHOW-UP,,through their words typed here,,IF,,one really READS THEM... I TRUSTED EVERYONE when I first came on,,,and THAT,,caused me much hurt in the end of knowing,,now,,what I didn't then.... |
OH,,one OTHER thing here,,,ALMOST NO GUY,,,READS your profile before he HITS on ya,,,NOT ME,,because THATS the first thing I DO,,IF YOUR IN FORUM and POST..I look and read,,and see a
what your about,,ANYONE....lol But MOST dude ,,,,nahhhhhhhhh They like PICTURES with,,,,,MUCH skin,,,REALLY,,,fact! I see THAT every week on here! |

Thats a big issue with many ladies,,because at some time in their life,,they met a weirdo who attached to them.... So they never give their real City....hell,,SOME,,their REAL STATE,,,,lol |

This is not about believing everything you read. It's more about assuming everything is a lie because some people have lied.

well i don't assume everything is not a lie...

This is not about believing everything you read. It's more about assuming everything is a lie because some people have lied. I think that would be a terrible way to go through life, as well as go through profiles. It seems to me that if someone is that jaded, their time might be better spent developing a hobby they can master by themselves and stop exposing others to their negative outlook. |

Lately, many people who contact me tell me they want me to tell them all about myself, rather than them reading profiles because everyone lies on profiles. I've noticed this more and more lately. Pppt. Screw them. I don't have much of a profile, but if I bothered to write one it would completely devoid of falsehoods. I feel that anyone who wanted me to write me emails to them 'about me' but who couldn't be bothered to read my profile was being lazy and slightly disrespectful. But I might just copy-paste my profile into an email for them. Are you like this? When you contact someone, do you want them to tell you things, so that you can check to see if they're truthful? No. I doubt I could catch a smart liar using this method, anyway. Does this happen to you? Do you find that many people are wary of believing anything in a profile? Similar: Sometimes when i make simple factual statements about my life some people have accused me of lying. Sometimes its in a flattering way ('you are too smart to do that for a living'), but its always unpleasant when others choose "he must be lying" over "that's surprising, let me examine my assumptions" The latest guy told me that if I expected people to read my profile, rather than repeat everything there, it must be because I've forgotten what I have written. Man, some people are bitter and assume everyone is alike. Bingo! |
Well,,in that case. I have been asked every question that a man can be asked,,,BUT, in THAT,,I never suspected THEY WERE GRILLING ME for a LIE they felt I HAD? I just answered their questions,,
even IF,,redundant. But,,I would also be with saying,,IF,,you really were interested in me,,YOU should have READ MY PROFILE? Right? And IF----you didn't,,Why NOT?,,,lol |

nothing but pictures/song lyrics/poems/anything except info about themselves, I will probably skip over it. Me too - unless their activity interests or certain qualities are uniquely co-aligned with mine. (I'm always a bit more interested in vegetarians/vegans and people who are into science/skepticism.) I'm not interested in photos and quotes, I'm interested in learning about the person's mind through their own words. OH,,one OTHER thing here,,,ALMOST NO GUY,,,READS your profile before he HITS on ya,,,NOT ME,,because THATS the first thing I DO,,IF YOUR IN FORUM and POST..I look and read,,
True, and sad. there's no bleh, oregon.

But I might just copy-paste my profile into an email for them. This is what I'm going to start doing. |
