Topic: Scammers or Mingle2 stock message?

Since I joined Mingle2, the only emails I've received are these very vague, generically flirty stock messages which ask me contact the user at a Yahoo email account. After the second one I just assumed it was a spam/scam thing. Never tried sending anything to the Yahoo addresses. But after going back and looking at the various senders' profiles, some seem like real people. Their pics aren't suspiciously super-model-like. The girls who live in my state actually sound like they're from here on their profiles (likes, dislikes, vernacular, etc.).

Are these messages actually templates that are part of an official Mingle2 function? Like, if you "Match" someone or "Quick Message" someone for instance, is there a stock message that goes to their inbox?
It just struck me that maybe I didn't get the memo and I've been ignoring all the actual potential.

If this rings a bell to anyone, I'd appreciate your impression.

Thanks:)

i feel the same, some of the ladies (if they are) claims to be from the States by their profile but after talking the facts are changing, the location, the age, even their profile picture is different than the one i recieve later...is there really any TRUE person out there...scammers suck...

For real. As a test I replied to one of them through the Mingle email and told her my favorite hobby was "making skimpy outfits for my Star Trek figurines". Her reply was a different version of the first one which said I sounded "sexy" and that we should "get to know each other better".

HAHAHA!

(No offense to anyone who does enjoy that hobby)

Well imho, the internet just isn't the place for instant verification of anyone's intentions or honesty.
But you seem wise enough to to figure things out on your own...
I'm glad that you found the Forums and hope that you have better experiences here. Just give it time...

Yeah, there's been some interesting scammers lately. Mingle2 moderators recommend letting them know so they can take care of it, and help with the suspicious one.

I've been getting hit with a rash of military men who give off the scammer vibe.

I have gotten a lot of those "contact me at Whatever@yahoo.com" messages too and I never reply to them. I ask to talk to people on this site before I go to my email and that takes about a month of contact. Wat too much BS out there and people get off on deception.

Why, thank you:) Just seeing these replies goes a long way to making this seem more human. I'll err on the side of caution and start reporting them. No one has yet mentioned a Mingle2-sanctioned stock message, so I'm guessing there isn't one.

Hi LastOfTheMofreakins,

As suggested, please report these members either with the report button on the email or through the profile. The site will investigate and take any action necessary.

Mingle2 is one of the best sites at getting rid of scammers but we need the help of members because we can't see all.

Just be cautious online. The internet is a haven for scammers, which we won't tolerate.

As far as a Mingle2 message, it wouldn't be in this type of email.

Hope this helps and good luck to you,

Kim

You nailed it.
You can absolutely begin to recognize
the vernacular, as being..off.
Just hit the 'Scammers B Gone' button,
otherwise labeled 'Report This User'
upper right on their profile (or the
one on every email.)

It's been my experience that anyone who tries to get you to contact them off-site is probably a scammer. (I've never seen one who wasn't, and I receive tons of these.)

They will say things like "I have trouble logging into this site" (then how did they manage to set up a profile so they can send out their scams?) or "I just use this site for screening, my real address is....." -- but Mingle2 has perfectly good e-mail and IM, so there is NO NEED to go elsewhere....

Lately I've been getting a bunch of scammer e-mails with almost identical boilerplate language. A lot of them are saying things like "Thanks for getting back to me, I haven't had much luck meeting people here" (even though I never HEARD of them until they sent this message!) and then they throw out the off-site contact info.

PLEASE REPORT THESE SCAMMERS!! We don't want them here any more than you guys do, and Admin is really good about nuking the accounts as soon as these people are brought to their attention.

Yep, I've been getting the military guys, too.

Yes, unfortunately there are a lot of those idiots out there - male scammers, too. Pay close attention to how they word things, strange capitalizations, always saying pet instead of dog or cat, but like you said, they always ask for direct email. They're pretty easy to trip up, just beware and report anyone you suspect. Cyberland is a weird place.
