I NEVER cloud my opinion, if someone doesn't like it, it's too bad for them. Clearly, I do not agree that public nudity should be allowed on public streets in the U.S.A.

I'm done.

Now we know where you stand.flowerforyou

I on the other hand believe that there in nothing more normal than nudity and if the weather permitted I would propose a world nudity day.

Just imagine that happening.drinker

lol If you come to California believe me you see plenty of near nudity. And what covering there is is so transparent nothing is left to the imagination. Wheater it is "attractive"; even clean, or not.

If it has some kind of psycological damage to children, or not, I think could be argued both ways. Nudity generally create questions by children but how parents respond is probably more helpful/harmful than the actual nudity. My preference is to explain things to my children at what I find as the right time and place so I was rather glad I was not raiseing children when I came to California.

All that said my children grew up around profoundly disabled people and their appearace, special needs, did sometimes create questions. Usually questions that could be broken down to very simple explanations but not always. They saw so many disabilities they got where they almost expected it.

Which come to think of it is pretty much what public nudity genrerally does; remove the "surprise/shock" va;ue.

This strays abit from the topic I do apologize for that but I felt like sharing a little story.
This thread and some of the comments reminds me of when I was a young wife with a young child walking down the street with my husband and daughter in 1980 Riverside California, when suddently someone drives up behind us and yells, ****** lover. I believed I had a right to love and be with whomever I choose and I did by law but since it offended someone are we saying I didn't have the right to be on that corner, with my husband and child trying to cross the street to get to the bus stop? I have a feeling that might ring true in some readers ears here (not necessarily those who post) but of course it is not true and that is why, thanks to fighters for equal rights, we have anti bullying laws and hate crime laws. Of course it does not change anothers belief but at least it helps make that sort of hatred not be so easily expressed and accepted.

I can remember when walking, on public streets, even being, with in city limits was a crime for me because of the color of my skin as a Native American. Now I find myself wondering if I need to carry a birthcertificate to prove my citizenship. Gain in some areas and loose in others. Bigotry is always ugly.

My daughter was born & raised in California but we live inland so the community is very different compared to what you may find in L.A.,it's family oriented here and more conservative.

I would hope that your children learned compassion by being close to disabled people, I'm sure they must have :) As a kid I was protective of my brother and tend to speak up with I hear someone saying "Retard".

I only need to go to Youtube to see the majority of comments of young people to see the horrible state they're in from every aspect.

For artistic expression, I think some of it needs to be in an enclosed gallery in a privately owned place.

Not too long ago I saw a recent video that was of supposed art being performed, where the so-called artist was doing a lousy job of painting body art on nearly nude models on the very public, busy sidewalk in NYC with kids walking by. It was wrong in my opinion and I was disappointed that it was allowed.

As long as it was within the law it's OK.

Are you objecting to the lousy job of the so-called artist?

I don't have the time or inclination for a discussion. I dont know the laws for public nudity in NYC. My opinion was the art sucked and I also did not like what it was displayed on, which were mostly nude to nude models, got it? I thought I was pretty clear with my opinion but apparently not clear enough for you.

Maybe you could find out what the nudity laws are in NYC. If they allowed the artist to do what he was doing, then there's not much you can do about it.

I'm a firm believer as long as it does not offend others or causes problems with what another believes...

We all have the right to believe in what we wish as long as we don't believe that others should believe in what we do...whoa

Someone will always be offended. However, that should not mean we can't do what we want, as long as it's within the law.

That would be the day that people would realize that sexulity has nothing to do with nudity except for the truly screwed up people.

Back to the original topic...censorship....I ain't for it. I have been agaist it since I discovered the porn drawer when I was probably 7 years old.

Even so, I have had to witness no talent hacks like Worhol, Picasso, Degass, and many others push out crap that other no talent hacks proclaim as genius. Art and freedom of expression has nothing to do with actual talent. This is America...you have the right to be offended. Art and freedom of expression is what someone else says is popular and acceptabe.

Just a side note....

I have done professional artwork for the Museums of Natural History in Denver, Vancouver and Mexico City..(paleontology exhibits and murals)

I have paid attention to the details of what society accepts...

Society is more accepting than what it should be...

Yet, it still needs to loosen up.

Basically, it's a no win....

What may be appealing to me...will offend someone who can't draw a stick figure

I can throw down a part of my soul...

others will be afraid it will taint thier righteousness if they accidentally see beyond thier own limits....

Personally, I think you should find a way to do what you love and believe in....even if it is just picking up a pencil....

But, I am just a simple rednecked country boy

None of this matters though....the small minded people will never see past the thing that they ain't doing.

Cognizant presentation of ideal here! One I am in tune with utterly but Warhol was far more of an artist than Picasso ever could have been. I would not say he was a "Master" but he is a name I do recognize for having been more of an example of Pop Culture than any other pop artist (not counting Musicians). Abstract art to me is a joke. But the thing is in art there is freedom to be as bad or as good as you want. Picasso prospered in that world where others better than him starved.

But I asked a question earlier pertaining to religious ideals and how they can affect our freedoms. In Islam it is a crime to portray Mohammed. One punishable by death. Come to think of it some sects of Islam make it a death penalty to have any artistic talents what so ever. What of an ideal that strangles freedom of expression? Is that tolerable?

You lost me at "Worhol was far more of an artist".........

Dude........

That is somewhere between tragic and pathetic. Worhol couldnt entertain goats with his work. Only Humans would sink to that level.

Warhol and Picasso are no talent hacks? Interesting.
