Watch out for the ones that pretend to be here in the states but are actually in Ghana.. They use sites like this to prey on people for $$$ for ALL kinds of reasons.. A few simple questions can root them out pretty fast though. Dont know why but I am like an ******* magnet for these vultures so if you have any questions about how to weed them out or figure out if it might be one just ask..

I avoid anyone who wants my Yahoo IM or phone number or anything instantly and will not message back and forth with me on here. Also, anyone who has any romantic notions about moving to CA. And men who want to know what my source of income is exactly, etc. I purposely do not put my job, etc.

In my experience, a disproportionate number of very blatant scammer/spammers have been from Ghana. I have run across this many times, through e-mails and IMs.
This is not to say that everyone from Ghana is necessarily a scammer/spammer. But Ghana has become a red flag in and of itself, and people are automatically suspicious of any such contacts. One problem is that they will set up an account, claiming to be in the US, but when you actually start to talk to them, suddenly they're in Ghana. I've asked a number of them about this discrepancy. The explanation is always along the lines of "I'm actually from Wisconsin, but I'm in Ghana temporarily for my job." Verrrrry suspicious. I think they hide their real location because they already KNOW Ghana is a red flag. So, you've got one big lie at the very start. Not conducive to building a lot of trust....and, when the lie is discovered, it makes them look guilty of something more, even if they're not. |

Yes I have to say I have had a email from a person claiming to be on "business" in Ghana but wow..he sure has been there for two months... kinda strange too. Red flags are definitely going off there. Thanks for the tips though.
