Topic: I want to honor all women. | |
---|---|
I copied this from a woman-friend's site and it moved me.
Thanks for being you. 'A while back, at the entrance of a gym, there was a picture of a very thin and beautiful woman. The caption was "This summer, do you want to be a mermaid or a whale?" The story goes, a woman (of clothing size unknown) answered the following way: "Dear people, whales are always surrounded by friends (dolphins, seals, curious humans), they are sexually active and raise their children with great tenderness. They entertain like crazy with dolphins and eat lots of prawns. They swim all day and travel to fantastic places like Patagonia, the Barents Sea or the coral reefs of Polynesia. They sing incredibly well and sometimes even are on cds. They are impressive and dearly loved animals, which everyone defend and admires. Mermaids do not exist. But if they existed, they would line up to see a psychologist because of a problem of split personality: woman or fish? They would have no sex life and could not bear children. Yes, they would be lovely, but lonely and sad. And, who wants a girl that smells like fish by his side? Without a doubt, I'd rather be a whale. At a time when the media tells us that only thin is beautiful, I prefer to eat ice cream with my kids, to have dinner with my husband, to eat and drink and have fun with my friends. We women, we gain weight because we accumulate so much wisdom and knowledge that there isn't enough space in our heads, and it spreads all over our bodies. We are not fat, we are greatly cultivated. Every time I see my curves in the mirror, I tell myself: "How amazing am I ?! " (The girl on the picture is French model Tara Lynn) Last comment: I'm not putting down thin people, being a thin woman myself, (BMI of 22 maybe?) Just saying that being large doesn't equate to being unattractive. |

(yeah i know i'll get beat up for this...but)
if you are comfortable being you, you don’t need ridicules comparisons such as the one the op has posted. our society denigrates many people for many reasons, but really, do you have to rely on fact less, abstract, attempted political correctness to feel better about it? there are plenty of people who don’t care if someone is too skinny or too fat. (i used the word fat because it is used in the op) everyone has preferences, and guess what? you cannot meet all of them. p.s. the person who wrote this knows very little about whales and should probably never try to write a ‘self-help’ book. (self-help, being an oxy-moron) |

KC0003,
You know I adore you from afar but let the beating commence. A lovely thought though factless, abstract and politically correct, still has the power to touch someone or make them see themselves differently for a day is worth the post. Someone (Willing2) saw wisdom, truth, kindness, something that touched him and he felt like sharing, hoping to touch someone else. That alone was worth the effort. Now I am craving sushi. |

I think we're all aware that everyone has preferences and none of us will fit into everyone's preferences. |

i get it the effort....i just dont get "it". if you are fine with being you, you shouldnt have to see yourself differenty, for a day or otherwise. Let's be honest, is anyone really "fine" with themselves always. I'd say no. We might be secure, confident, self-assured the majority of the time but we are all weak at times. We are human. |

Well, you are giving people a hard time for liking something like that. Really, though, why worry about it? How does it affect you if someone enjoyed reading it? |
