I once spent two weeks driving a cab in Colorado Springs. I was no good at it. It is long hours with very little pay after you pay the rent on the cab. My last day I left owing them $40.00.
I considered buying the cab, as owning your cab is the only way to go if you want to make more money. But you have to work 12 hours a day and you basically live in your car. I did it out of curiosity and I wanted to learn my way around the city. I decided I did not want to spend my life in a car. What jobs have you had that you just tried out for the fun of it? |

I drove a cab when I first got outta the army. My 3rd night on the job, some punk tried to rob me saying he had a gun. when he reached for the money I snapped his wrist and dislocated his shoulder!!! He took off running and was caught and charged with attempted armed robbery. I got fired for mistreating a fare!!! Go Figure!!!

I've been watching a television series on Netflix about an X-cop who drives a cab. It's called HACK. He goes around helping people in a very rogue way. It reminded me of when I drove cab. I'm glad nothing ever happened to me. I'm sure it would have eventually if I had continued. Colorado Springs is a dangerous place. |

I must be very lucky.
While working at Domino's Pizza, a new guy was hired who worked as a driver. He had pink cheeks and looked like an accountant. He was robbed twice in the first month, once at knife point and once at gun point. He got so scared that he quit delivering and started working on the inside. That week, the store was robbed by three people wearing black hoods carrying automatic weapons. Damn! I had just went home early that night. They put everyone in the cooler and ransacked the place, but did not find the safe. That guy quit working the next day... he said the job was "too dangerous." It was dangerous. I ran from a few suspicious characters myself a few times, but never got robbed. I was very alert. |

One summer, making $$ for college,
I went to work in a pickle factory. Three days I lasted. The smell was overwhelming. My lungs burned. Here is my resultant patented formula: 3 days in pickle factory=6 months smelling like pickle head. |

Here is my resultant patented formula: 3 days in pickle factory=6 months smelling like pickle head. I worked at a Mexican fast food place once. It was not taco bell. But I learned to make great smothered burritos. I lived on smothered burritos while I was there. I never got tired of them. |

A lot is stacked against cab drivers, and it changes from place to place.
I once toyed with the idea of starting my own delivery service. That is, I would provide food delivery within a certain area for a fee. You place your order with the restaurant, then call me with the order....and I would pick up the food and deliver it. A bit more complicated than driving a cab, but with much of the same overhead and risk. The big payoff would have been during the week delivering lunches to businesses in bulk - hundreds of lunches delivered within a 2 hour span. Anything on the nights and weekends would have been just gravy. Plus once things caught on, many restaurants likely would have wanted to work out business agreements to expand their customer base at a low investment cost....and that could have led to mobile advertising, discounts, etc. Plus some might no longer employ their own delivery people because a business agreement with me may have been cheaper. |

A good idea for a person with a car is getting groceries for the elderly.

Ive done fast food as crew and management. Worked in daycare for 10 years. worked over 6 years at wally world doing just about everything. Id have to say that the job i disliked the most was sorting donations for good will because people would toss all types of things in the collection bens.

I once worked in a small building, about the size of a one car garage.
It had a big slowly turning barrell, similar to a concrete mixer, a garden hose that would spray oil/butter and thousands of pounds of un popped popcorn in 50 pound bags. I popped popcorn for two days, filled bags of popcorn floor to ceiling, back to front and ate myself sick...I still like popcorn. |
