overreact much? seems so

well if meant for me no not at all

for one if he meant to make the comparison then he was wrong for doing and not worthy of receiving money from me

and if he did not make the comparison yet made an apology for something he did not do in order to continue receiving money from espn then his character is questionable and not worthy of my money

so no i did not over react i stand up for my believes even when it is not easy to do so

hank jr likes those royalty checks----either he sold out or did what he was accused of

either way i will not buy any more hank jr stuff

----------------------------------------------------------------

Williams backed off Tuesday.

"The thought of the leaders of both parties jukin and high fiven on a golf course, while so many families are struggling to get by simply made me boil over and make a dumb statement," Williams wrote on Facebook and his website. "I am very sorry if it offended anyone."

ESPN pulled his song, "All My Rowdy Friends," which has opened Monday Night Football for two decades. In a statement Monday prior to the Indianapolis-Tampa Bay game, ESPN said: "While Hank Williams, Jr. is not an ESPN employee, we recognize that he is closely linked to our company through the open to Monday Night Football. We are extremely disappointed with his comments, and as a result we have decided to pull the open from tonight's telecast."

Williams issued a statement through his publicist on Monday night, saying in part: "Some of us have strong opinions and are often misunderstood. My analogy was extreme -- but it was to make a point. I was simply trying to explain how stupid it seemed to me -- how ludicrous that pairing was. They're polar opposites and it made no sense. They don't see eye-to-eye and never will. I have always respected the office of the president."

Tuesday, he issued another statement. ESPN had no comment on whether Williams' song would be used on future telecasts.

people say stupid things when the camera is on and they get a bit full of themself

who in their right mind would compare a suicidal/homicidal bigot with the father/husband, community minded person we have in office now,,,

and who in their right mind expects people to give up their hobbies or vacations or anything else whenever others in the country are suffering,,,, I seriously doubt hank williams jr is struggling anywhere NEAR as much as I am right now and I Really dont care if people in better economic circumstances can afford to go GOLF,,,

,,but it makes a good story

Considering Hanks canoodling with the tea party and he has said some pretty divisive things there.

I would say this is the cherry on top of the sundae.

The NFL hasn't decided anything on this issue but ESPN did. He will not be bringing in the football with a song or word there anymore.

I wrote them and thanked then for this decision.

I consider ESPN a better station for it.

It is a good thing and it doesn't violate anyones freedom of speech. Hank can still say anything he wants whenever he gets ready.

the problem is he did not really say it --- and espn misquoted thus meaning in actuality they (espn) were the one making the comparison

letting this kind of thi9ng happen over and over again and again is why this country is losing a lot of the freedoms the "people" of this country used to hold so dear

and if you are gonna quote --- use the complete quote --- not just a piece of it thus taking it out of context (just like espn took what hank said and misquoted him)

Well its officially gone now. ESPN claims to have dropped him, Hank claims to have left. Hank also said he is taking his song with him so that leaves one to believe he owns the rights to it.

Personally I think ESPN made a bad business decision. In all honesty for all the football watchers out there what do you care about more? The "are you ready for some football" song which has been on for 23 seasons or someones opinion of our current president? In fact I bet most wouldn't care or even know about it had ESPN not pulled the song.

Didn't you say in the OP that you didn't even watch what happened? Seems like you were just assuming that he didn't do what people accused him of doing. And yet, he apologized for what he did. So it does seem like you've overreacted a bit.

WOW! ESPN did not make a very bright business decision at all. Of course the NFL didn't comment, they'll wait a few days for this to blow over (most of society has the memory span of a lamp post) and back to business as usual.

I'd like to see MNF purists call, write, email the NFL and tell them to take MNF away from espeeu.

this thread's title, 'nfl compares obama to hitler', is in itself a false statement. the video showing exactly what hank said is readily accessable if you want to see what was said and who said it.

williams is a racist bigot. i attended a concert of his in oakland, ca., never again, where he made a sarcastic 'big deal' that oakland has a boulevard named after martin luther king and went on to say that nashville has a boulevard named after hank williams, his father. what was that all about if not racism? why did he not use washington ave. or lincoln boulevard or bob hope drive as a comparison? why mlk v hank williams?

i see espn's action as highly courageous. whether or not it pays off for them is irrelavent.

dont know much about hank except what I have read of him, dont much like what I have read about him but I Really think few 'celebs' are As big as they think they are and that they are easily replaced in most cases

as far as the mlk statement, doesnt he realize nearly EVERY city has an mlk blvd,, not just oakland,,lol

I guess he was trying to compare his fathers noteriety in nashville, to mlk's noteriety in oakland? but he didnt mention all the other places where there ISNT a hank williams blvd,, huh?

he explained what he meant as, they are 2 complete opposites that are not going to see eye to eye so the golf game was a waste of time

This. I personally think he was spot on in his assessment. If they can't see eye to eye on important issues, how is it they can suddenly have time for a golf game together as if they're best friends? Doesn't really work.

It wasn't the golf game itself, it was the fact that they were doing it together yet supposedly have these big differences. Pay attention, you might actually learn something.
