According to KJV Matthew 5:39 {But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.} I believe Jesus meant that we should totally forgive immediate flaws and be prepared to tolerate future reoccurence. That was why he didn't say "when you're hit on the right avoid been hit on the second". He expects us, according to Matthew 5:44, to pray for them. Sinners repent and backslide yet God still forgives.
Please read Matthew 5:48

I have read it, but I dont think that interpret it the way you do. I also dont think forgiveness eliminates consequence in this world. We reap what we sow, even if we are forgiven.

The above scripture means to Not return evil for evil.

It does not mean to become a doormat.

I don't believe we reap with we sow.
Then what is the work of grace and mercy? God forgives us our sins if we truely turn away from it, Jesus Christ has pay for our sins and it's consequence, colo2:12-15.
Besides a dead man pays for nothing.

To my own perspective, that passage tells us to be as perfect as God is; which includes emulating his ways of forgiveness.
Truely, there are consequences for certain evil deeds, there is also reward for perseverance.
Let me ask you a question, do you support couples divorcing just because one mistreats the other?

Sometimes some christians, after being saved,

allow themselves to be brought under

legalistic bondage to the letter of the Law.

Some churches although christian, sadly teach legalism, and

put people back under legalistic bondage....and may even be

very controlling .

Get free from a church or a person like that.

"The Letter of the Law Killeth, but the Spirit Freeth."

I don think being saved or forgiven automatically erases consequences,, because consequences are not just punishment, they serve as teaching tools and God continues to teach us, even after we are saved or forgiven

My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord, nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him; 6 for whom the Lord loves He chastens, and scourges every son whom He receives."
7 If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom a father does not chasten? 8 But if you are without chastening, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate and not sons. 9 Furthermore, we have had human fathers who corrected us, and we paid them respect. Shall we not much more readily be in subjection to the Father of spirits and live?
