When I look at photos of men on a dating site I am drawn to men who dress casually. (Versus men who are wearing suits and ties!)...I want to see what a man looks like during his "off-hours." I've never been a big fan of the "corporate type" anyway! I'm an "old hippie" from "way back when" and I prefer independent men who don't want to live life in a "straight-jacket!"

Good to find someone else who isn't afraid to call themselves a "hippie" too. The term "hippie" sure seems like a "bad word" in some circles today. Have you noticed this too?...I've had my fill of big cities though...I'd rather live in a small friendly "down-home" town and just drive into big cities once in awhile!

I like living out in the boonies. It would be nice if they would grade the road more often. And I have been worried about the pot holes. But if you drive real slow you can miss one and hit five. I have gotten where I really like well water and the dog just loves the open space like I do. Since they changed the reception on television to digital either one watches DVDs or has satellite. Lest one just watches the static and listens to the radio. I am on a mountain in a dip. If I drive a little ways up the road I can use the cell phone.laugh

You live on Steam Boat Mountain in Buffalo Gap, Texas? You must be neighbors with my parents!

I like men who "dare to be different!" Men who remain "true to themselves" even if their "ways" seem "out of fashion" or weird or nerdy to others...Conformists bore me! Anyone can be a "follower." But it takes a lot of guts and courage to "stand alone" and "dare to be different" in today's world...I'm not talking about being a "country boy" or a "hippie" or a "corporate type" etc...It's more than just "falling in line" and adopting a "label!" Or deciding to be in one "group" or another...It's about being "true to oneself" no matter what! Don't you think?

yes and I think men who grow up in the country often are like that because they tend to be more self sufficient at an earlier age (fix their own cars, build their own homes, fix the furnace themselves butcher their own meat -rather than paying for it, for example)

not that that cannot be true of suburban and urbanites, but I think it is a distinctiion of the country boys I've known

nonetheless, I want man who treats me well and has a positive attitude toward women regardless of where he was raised

The quiet can be maddening here until you get used to it. I guess one just has to make peace with it so to speak. I used to want to be a hermit and I got my wish. That is until it is hunting season and then it sounds like a war zone around here.

I was raised by "down-home" parents in So. CA. Every Sunday my parents took me out into the "country" so I could see farms and ranches and cows and horses and hay and "groves" of "growing food!"...When the culture changed and rapid development became the norm in So. CA I felt like a "fish out of water!"...All of the "open space" disappeared along with the balance with nature! What some people viewed as a "big gain" I viewed as a "loss" and even a "death!"...So I packed up and moved to a rural and "down-home" area of AZ to get out of the "rat race" and have some peace and quiet! But it didn't last for long! Our area was targeted for rapid development and now I'm stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic and long lines and "maddening crowds" all over again! (And surrounded by look-alike "cookie cutter" tract homes again too!)....I'm busy planning my "escape" right now! Let me outta here!

All the animals must be dead around your place. "Quiet" country life is an oxymoron! Aside from the chatter of the chickens, turkeys, and goats, I've got crows, hawks, squirrels, trees creaking and groaning, wind through the leaves, etc. Not particularly quiet, though much nicer then city traffic.

Good post! I seem to do best with self-sufficient men who like to "build" and invent new things and "do" for themselves. I'm a "do-er" myself!...My "late" husband was a big-time "do'er" too! We loved to come up with new ideas and "build things from scratch!" (Products we made ourselves...Creating web-sites or publications...Opening stores...Inventing new recipes...Taking vacations together for fun and research etc.)...We were constantly doing "new things" together....Neither one of us wanted to get "stuck in ruts!"

Most of the time I live in my "cave!" I just come out once in awhile so I can feel part of the "larger world" for a bit. And I don't want to lose all of my social skills and become a total "Jane!" (As in "Tarzan and Jane!")
