why is pornography legal but not prostitution?
i believe i have the right to have sex for money.
why does the government stop me?
p.s; i'm not a prostitute.

can i just ask if you were watching family guy when you came up with this question? lol... it made me think of the scene on the episode that was on tonight when the cops go in the room to arrest them and the guy was like "i'm taping it... so its porn, not prostitution" and they say okay and leave...

it's your local law enforcement. city, county, state. your city has to make money. so they tax you, and when they can they fine you. the more laws they have the more chance they have to fine you. parking meters, code compliance, animal control, lots of different stuff

bahaha.
i did watch family guy.

but i had previously asked this question on facebook as well.

are you really trying to tell me that the sole reason i'm not allowed to have sex for money is so that the city can make money when i get caught?

do you realize how many jobs would be lost if prostitution was legalized. cities make money by enforcing laws. citizens break laws, then city employees catch them. then the money starts coming in. there is no get out of jail free card. first your car gets impounded, so there is towing and storage fees. if you want out, start with the bondsman. then the lawyer to represent you when you plead no contest. of course you will be convicted, so it's a fine, then probation. probation office collects fees, and the fine (restitution) the judge sentenced you to. not to mention parking fees when you get to the probation office. i'm sure you will needs classes to "rehabilitate" you, so more money there. all this is just the tip of the iceberg

They could make cheaper money with licensing fees and taxes like Amsterdam does.

sure, the job loss would make unemployment go up. think no courts. so everyone who works there. no bailbonds, no lawyers, no probation office, it's too many jobs verses collecting from a few brothels

Sorry Bulldog, But speaking from THAT COMMUNITY, That would be one less thing to babysit. And trust me there would still be enough for us not to lose jobs.

if we are worried about the financial aspect maybe we ought to weight the fact that prostitutes dont pay taxes. morality aside. also, would sales tax be applicable to this transaction? brings new meaning to taxing that ***!

bleh.
america and her morals.
pshhh.
to hell with morals.

Why the hell with morals? Everyone can't go around doing whatever they want in society. We have responsibility as a whole to live in some kind of harmony with each other. While you have a right to sell your body, certain laws have to be in place for the protection of everyone. The govt. has made it legal in some parts of Nevada. Not every adult will act responsible if it were made legal, trust me in my line of work I see stupid adults do it all the time. My opinion, it is a degrading line of work. My opinion, so don't thrown stones.

If we let some people's morals govern the way we live, where does it stop? Who's morals do we go by? How much do we let them interfere with other peoples' lives?

jails are typically understaffed and the staff underpaid, especially in texas. legalizing prostitution won't cause jails to close down, but it won't lessen your work load much. i'm guessing most prostitutes can be in gp as nonviolent anyway, so not much tear gas used in those cell blocks.

gigolos sure, but the comment was about the op's penis

my issue with prostitution has nothing to do with legalities, essentially if a man is such a bore that it's the only way he can get sex that satisfies him - that's a problem...(his). And I know we had a recent thread on this but I would not be interested in a man who visited sex traders or sex merchants - legal or not - if he was my boyfriend and I found out about it = "grounds for immediate dismissal no explanation required"

You know this is one of those subjects that will bring about many different opinions and bring on a debate about what's right and what's wrong. Who's right and who's wrong. It can be a touchy subject. I won't even answer your question regarding who's the judge of morals because it will only lead to a debate, and I've seem in other threads where you've had that back and forth debate on differences of opinion with others, so I won't go there with you on that one. I'll let someone else go at that one. No offense.

The govt. doesn't have to make selling you stuff legal, people are going to do it anyway and they do. So if you don't want the govt. in your business, then I guess you should do it on the down low so as to not get caught. ohwell As long as what someone wants to do does not impose on my beliefs and my happy way of life they can do what ever they want.

Well, I asked you about it, as you said we all have a responsibility to live in harmony with each other. So, I'm wondering how you expect everyone to do that. And what morals to go by. But, if you're unwilling to discuss your thoughts, that's up to you.
