message to Justmestaci,
My son was born 9 weeks prem too. He has aspergers, We see the leading Childrens Doctor in brisbane and he would not give a diagnosis until he was 5. Which unfortunatly was too late for the early intervention. My sons traits were varied but the most confronting were: inability to make or keep eye contact when having a conversation, fidgeting, rocking, humming, obsessive focus on one thing, ie he would play with a toy for 5 hours staright and nothing would divert him from this toy etc. It gets harder as they get older to understand them, but eventually they mature and interaction with them becomes easier. Happpy to chat whenever, Hope this helps.

Hi all,

As you all know who know me, I am a non-fiction article writer.

My current projects are both having any funds I make given to charity.

I am writing one on people who choose the road less traveled and decide NOT to put down concrete roots.

The second is specifically on Asperger's syndrome and living with it. If it earns a check, the entire thing will be sent to autism awareness.

I am looking for parents, spouses, and actual persons with Asperger's.

If it gets published, I will give copies to anyone who participates. I will not use real names unless you want your name used.

I just spent a year in a relationship living with someone with Asperger's. I do not want all that wasted.

You never have to leave this site. You do not have to identify yourself at all.

Let me know through thread if you are interested. If some of you say yes, I will publish my questions or send them to you.

Terri

Hi! I have a son with autism. He is 8 years old now but he was 12 months when we starting noticing things like he never liked cuddling with us, when you picked him up he would not curl his arms and legs around you, he would never look at us, etc. By the time he was 20 months we started the process of getting him tested. I filled out questionaires and then went through the school system to get some testing done. After their testing came back I was able to use those results I was able to get a referral to the Thompson Center for Neurological Disorders. It literally took five minutes for the lady to diagnoise him. I have to say it has been a really tough road but I have learned as much from him and he has from me and our team that help him. Yes I refer to us as a team, his teachers, therapist, doctors, close family friends, co workers. Everyone he is around my son is apart of our team so that they know what to expect and what to do when the unexpected happens. He is aggressive and sometimes he has strength that just seem abnormal for a child his age. But we have a strict routine that we do and stick to as much as possible. Feel free to email me! We can trade info back and forth. I may have some things that would help you and you might have some ideas that could help me from time to time. Hope everything works out for you and remember sometimes its the simple things that make the days easier...like laying outside in the yard. That has a wonderful calming effect on my son. Have a great night. :)

My son is showing some signs of autism. I really could use some insight to the disorder. So if any one on here has a child with autism of any severity I would really appreciate some advice on how to handle a child with it. How do I go about getting him tested? etc etc

Thanks in advance

We didn't have fear of autism because we signed a waiver and refused to allow our daughter to be vaccinated, an informed decision. Mathematically, there is a link to vaccines. In fact, there's even a risk of asthma, which really isn't a disease, but rather an allergic reaction. In fact, the epidemic of polio in the mid last century was caused by a live virus polio vaccine.

Medical science does not support the claim that vaccinations are linked to autism. Also, making such a claim here does nothing to help the parent of an autistic child.

My nephew is autistic due to a brain abnormality that resulted from open heart surgery at birth. He also has a shunt in his head.

My son is high functioning autism. He is twelve years old and about to be 13. I recently moved from the behavioral charts into what I call the Man-Up Plan. It is a mapped out plan of his daily schedule and the plan of his taking ownership of his daily schedule from wake up until bed time each day. It is seemingly going well so far. Morning afternoon dinnertime and bedtime. He earns time on things he enjoys for a successful day. He loses things he enjoys on a bad day.

When the rate of autism increases from 1 in 88 to 1 in 80, maybe you'll ask questions then. Numerically, they were linked when it jumped from 1 in 115 to 1 in 88. In fact, a vaccinated child is statistically more dangerous to an unvaccinated child and the reverse.

There is nothing to prove that autism is caused by vaccination you just as easily say it due to pasteurized milk, steriods in the animals for food, pollution affects upon the food and water sources, or even the water sanitization for drinking that over time it created austistic tendencies to rise and be passed on. Just as in your accusations against vaccinations there isn't proof of any of those things either.

I agree...My son has autism and I never thought it was from immunizations. Actually when I look back on it if I knew now what I knew then i probably could have had my son checked out way before 18 months. As a baby he did not do typical baby things. For example when you pick up a baby who is about 6 months old they tend to clutch to you. He never did that. He never made eye contact as a baby. There was a moment when we thought he may be deaf because he didn't react to things the way he should have. If anything I believe it is hereditary and it lays dormant until an environmental factor causes it to "awaken". I think it is hereditary because I can look at others in my family and see signs in them as well. Even myself. I don't like to make eye contact it creeps me out. But I know have to so I do silent counting in my head that way I am making enough eye contact to make sure people know I am listening ot them. I do have to say I really don't like when people make it seem like having a child with autism is a bad thing. It can be a wonderful experience if you want it to be. Good luck and I hope everything works out :)

I actually think it runs on my dad's side. I see many instances of issues on that side of the family from bi-polar, my cousins granchild has seizures, my uncle was never right in the head. My child needs consistency, he hates noises, always did. He avioded eye contact and I need change in my life. I don't think I was the best mother in the beginning because I can not stand mundane things. I crave change, I don't like feeling trapped either or cornered.

Hi Stacey,
Testing is fine, but what makes you suspect autism vs. something else. Checkout Parents with Autistic Kids on linkedin.

Best of Luck

Life happens.

There was NO hemophilia in my family before my brother. My mom is a carrier. No one else is except my sister. I am not. My nephew, my sister's son is a hemophiliac. My brother was a severe bleeder. My nephew is very mild. That is not supposed to be possible.

Mutations happen.

There is evidence that my bipolar tendencies ride on the same gene as hemophilia some studies have found.

There is something called a latent tendency which means it lies dormant and can be triggered into a condition or the person may never trigger and never slip into a particular disorder.

You can never know if what you are doing is right. There have been studies where parents who were total germaphobs actually had sicker children because they used so much germ killer, the child did not develop natural immunities.

I have to be immunized as an adult against chicken pox.

My mom tried like heck to give it to me when I was little and my brother and sister and neighbor kids broke out and I didn't catch it.

Fate and human biology is a puzzling thing.
