Don't worry about who you offend, speak your mind.

You are right on the money here. I deal with junkies on a daily basis at work and when I asked them how they started out EVERYONE of them has said Pot. Over ten years and over one thousand suspect interviews later I am getting the same answers.

well i guess that makes you an expert on junkies then. go ask the millions of social pot smokers, who lead productive adult lives, and let me know how they respond before you go blaming pot for the choices people themselves make.

i've been around pot smokers all my life, i was married to a heroin addict, i've lost friends to alcoholism, i've lived with tragedy also, yet still, i know, given the same choices in life, i've made different ones for myself, as they could have. pot is not the culprit, and all the statistics in the world, skewed as you would have us believe by interviewing the extreme, is not going to change my mind that people are responsible for their actions, and their choices, period.

You have a jaded and biased opinion because you use the illegal drug.

The studies that lead to the bogus conclusion that pot is a gateway drug and leads to other drugs only looked at drug users. Most drug users have used pot. Hell, they use anything they can get their hands on.

But show me a study of people who use pot and only pot and never change to hard drugs. I don't think you will find that pot leads to harder drugs. It's a bogus claim. Plain cigarettes are also a drug. No one has ever said that they are a gateway drug. Alcohol has never been called a gateway drug either.

Most studies are biased studies.

you catch shoplifters who are using drugs and ask them how they 'got started'?

thats interesting,,,,

not so interesting that they would say 'pot' since they are addicts repeating what they have heard, and not doctors

hemp was once marketed and promoted here, I dont believe it is a 'gateway' to anything, I do believe ADDICTIVE personalities once they start using pot (or alcohol) will continue to seek for a bigger high

I also believe alcohol is the 'gateway' to plenty of destructive habits, but it makes too much profit for anyone to label it

The majority of the people I catch have some sort of illegal drug on them(which automatically make it a refferal to the police). Typically the police take over an hour to get there in most cases the average wait time is 90 minutes and my interviews don't last very long so I usually make small talk with them to keep them calm and to keep them from thinking about fighting(if they are not cuffed, I don't handcuff everyone) or trying to run(which they can't do because were in a locked office, but the hassel and liability of taking them down and restraining them if they arn't restrained isn't worth it).

I always ask them how they get started and questions along those lines because I am curious and I have not had a person ever say they didn't start with Pot.

It is what it is.

People are responsible for their own actions BUT addiction is a powerful thing to overcome and it att starts with their first hit.
