According to several sources, Rep. David Wu has been accused of sexual assault, The Oregonian reports.

This spring, a distraught woman called Wu's office and left a voicemail accusing him of an unwanted sexual encounter. When asked about the allegation, Wu admitted to senior aides of engaging in sexual activity with the woman, but insisted it was consensual.

Those who heard the voicemail left by the accuser said she was breathing heavily and sounded very upset. The woman is the daughter of a close friend and campaign donor of Wu.

The allegation raises new questions regarding Wu's conduct during his re-election campaign last year. According to staff members, he acted so erratically that the campaign avoided public appearances and relied heavily on advertising.

Wu gained negative attention in February when a photograph that showed him wearing a tiger costume was released.

It is not just Democrats in Congress involved in sex scandals. Many Republicans as well got caught with their pants down (ie. Bob Packwood, Larry Craig, Arnold Schwartzennegger as well as several of those who strongly condemned former president Clinton). Movie stars, musicians, and athletes have also done the same thing. It doesn't make it right, but being involved in some sort of sex scandal is equal opportunity, regardless of political affiliation.

It's ok because democrats don't run on morals like republicans do.

When a republican does it they are held to a higher standard because they run on a platform of "higher morals" and democrats don't.

If your Doctor has an affair, he can't be blackmailed to release national secrets or vote a certain way on legislation.

I doubt blackmail is the concern though, when politicians have affairs. If it was, their coming clean would certainly alleve any threat of that and make their job LESS expendable, instead of more expendable.
