I won't ask. But I will secretly assume that you have worked with more then your fair share of concrete.

We had a partial tunnel collapse this weekend 50' concrete slabs falling... Now they're saying the concrete used for the past 30yrs is no good for this climate (RUNS!) Although the mixture of ingredients that make up concrete can cause a brittle outcome when cured, this sounds like a classic case of not adding enough steel reenforcement. You see, rebar adds tinsile strength to concrete, which lack thereof would cause a collapse. If there isn't any/enough steel running the length of the span, failure is imminent. I would also suggest a little less sand, more water, and bigger rock added to the mix. Don't ask me how I know this... I just do. Interesting you would point that out.... I thought about this. But it seems like something even more sinister.... Sodium Chlorite! Or road salt in the north.see below. Although road salt rarely jeopardizes the structural integrity of bridges, its corrosivity damages bridge decks. Chloride ions penetrate concrete and corrode reinforcing rods, causing the surrounding concrete to crack and fragment. Installing corrosion protection measures in new bridges and repairing old bridges could cost Snowbelt states between $250 million and $650 million per year. Similarly, road salt causes reinforcing steel in parking garages to rust, thereby compromising the structural integrity of the surrounding concrete. Installing corrosion protection measures in parking garages and restoring damaged parking garages could easily cost Northeast and Midwest states between $75 million and $175 million per year. Other roadside hardware and some nonhighway objects near salt-treated roads also are affected by the corrosive properties of road salts (NRC, 1991). So you see.... We're in deep chit! EDIT* Our first class dumb arses at work |

Road salt...??
WTF is that?! Although it kinds makes me wonder... we have several bridges whose pillars are submerged in sea water, with no failure. But I'm pretty ugly sure any thing "chlorite" is highly alkaline, so I guess it'd make sense. Wouldn't it be cheaper (not to mention safer) to just find a non-corrosive substance to de-ice the roads with?! |

2008 overpass collapse over a highway... crushing 3 cars travelling at 60mph and the occupants
They can't use sand... cause that clogs sewage systems They can't use Sodium... cause it's useless in real cold weather. I think they're trying to kill us.... |

I think they're trying to kill us.... I can tell from this picture that the road is made of asphalt, not concrete. Seeing how the primary bonding agent in asphalt is tar, the drastic drop and rise in temperature would cause a constant contraction and stretch that would really weaken the structural integrity of anything. And that's the problem. Bridges are not meant to stretch and contract like the ground. Granted there is a small allowance, but asphalt is not suitable for this difference. It's too stretchy, causing weakness. Where as on a bridge you have to have the perfect balance between tensile strength and atmospheric variables. But... it's understandable, you're Canadian. At least yous guys are tryin'. |

I don't really know why, but yesterday... I brought sand to the beach. Well, doh. I keep all MY sand at the beach. It is the logical thing. |

So Johnn, who is at fault for
the wrong cement mixtures? Because Sneaks has not been around.. makes one wonder.. |

So Johnn, who is at fault for the wrong cement mixtures? Because Sneaks has not been around.. makes one wonder.. Morning Stoners! I'll let you know in about..ummmm 20 yrs? after the inquiries Here's a better pic from 2008... The girders supports gave out. Did road salt cause this? Not as likely as the tunnel collapse. Hey Soufie, Canadians will need your help duplicating Krupas penis in Cement....You know, For structural integrity of our roadways. T... Go ahead and help the lady will ya? You'll be heroes! |

Ptoooooooooooooooies gf, did you check your other mail? that's alot of cheeto's :)~ gewd morning my favorite peoples!!! ptooooies!!! wow johnn... we had a overpass collapse here a few cars years back, i am still paranoid when i travel under them, or worse, have to be stopped under one at a red light or some such... scary stuff. |

Well, I do believe krupa would go for the greater good, and allow some impressions to be made. I would be there, of course, to, er, supervise and to uh cheerlead :-) |
