What she said^^^^ and...when I first arived at JSH/Mingle eons ago I had my instant messanger turned on. I got slammed with scammers. It is hard to report IMers. You can shut off your IM that seems to take a majority of those types out of the picture. Welcome to the site, good luck.

Just a couple of points here:

The larger a site is, in terms of membership numbers, the more attractive a target it becomes for scammers. This is just simple math -- they want to focus on venues which afford the greatest possible return.

Mingle2 membership is in the millions now, and this is going to draw some scammers.

I'm on a small, "alternative" site, which has a membership of a little over 30,000. That site still gets scammers, but comparatively few. It doesn't have enough people to get the attention of scammers in huge quantities.

Having said all that, it needs to be noted that (in my experience, anyway) Mingle2 is by far the best site there is for a.) keeping scammers off the site, and b.) eliminating the ones who do manage to slip through the cracks.

I have a habit of catching scammers on a fairly regular basis. When I find one, I report this to Admin immediately, and they remove that person from the site very quickly. On many occasions, the scammer is actually gone from the site before I even get a chance to submit the report!

On many sites I've seen, there is no effort whatsoever to deal with scammers. There are sites I used to be on, where I never got a message that WASN'T from a scammer!

Our people are doing a good job here. Sometimes it may be hard to see that, because scammers are so annoying, but it could be a lot worse!

And by reporting scammers, you can help keep the site as clean as possible. We'll probably never eliminate them entirely, but we can certainly keep them to a minimum if everyone is willing to do their part....

This is an excellent response, by one of our top mods. If you guys will simply report them by email. (click "report user") or the same on user profiles, "report user" We'll take the appropriate action.

Mingle2 is growing much faster than i would have anticipated, and as Lex mentioned, larger numbers are enticing to scammers.

You can also mail me directly, or mail Charles. We will dispose of anyone, scamming our members.

Thanks,
Mark
