Topic: Should people pray for the misery of others? | |
---|---|
I was just scanning my FB page and there was a prayer wishing misery and death on someone they felt deserved it
First, off no one can determine another's life or death deservance, period. But to me this shows an unhealthy mind, one that feels justified in determining whether another human deserves this life. Who are they to feel they have this right? |

But to me this shows an unhealthy mind, one that feels justified in determining whether another human deserves this life. Who are they to feel they have this right? Hmmmm, who knows? However, I (being a Golden Child) make an immediate judgement of any person's character who would need to ask this question. |

But to me this shows an unhealthy mind, one that feels justified in determining whether another human deserves this life. Who are they to feel they have this right? Good observation, and the exact same reasoning can be applied as an unjust protectionism to say prayers to people to help them (get over an illness, or financial troubles or something. To meet their long-lost brother.) So if we don't have the right to judge others because we can never know all the details of their sins, then we can't have the right to pray for good things to happen to others, becasue we can never know all the details of their meritful or valorous or pious or righteous lives, so we must also not pray for the sick, the ugly and the wretched to start to feel better. |

When I put my previous post, my guiding spirit was the idea of fairness. If fairness is not a concern, but good heart and good will is, then by all means, yes, one should not pray for bad things to happen to anyone.
Except being fair is part of good heart and good will. You can't be unfair and make good things to happen. The commandment says "thou shalt bear no false witness" and Jesus judges on merit, absolute merit. God created man in His own image, so if Jesus (God) is fair, so must man be. Here we have one of those inherently inconvenient but unshakable self-contradictions that are so prevalent in the new testament, and which turned out all the legions of Sunday-school rebels, those blue-eyed eight-to-ten-year-old blonde girls with the golden locks, who get thrown out of bible school because they keep pestering the teachers to give these girls a clarification. It's always easier to expel the smart and rebellious students, than to give them answers that correspond to reason, because this latter is most times impossible to do. |

Who are they to feel they have this right? we have the right to pray for anything, as it will be Gods choice to answer a prayer as he sees fit anyhow however, I wouldnt expect God to look favorably on a prayer wasted on more suffering and death to our fellow human I would expect it be more favorable for us to pray for things like forgiveness and guidance (for us and others).... |

Jc might. but i do not follow him. The topic is on cursing ( a curse is wishing harm). Praying for good will is very relevent. Cursing makes you a judge and thier is only one true judge outside a family. The scriptures are about family. you teach your children and you make judgements on them and discipline not curse them. The scriptures do allow judgement in the family of Yahweh. It is no different than a mother and a father who judge to correct a child in the Family of Yahweh. the rules are guidelines of spirit to keep unity and not chaos.so as in family all are treated and disciplined the same so is the family of Yahweh. Irrelevent? in who's eyes? Praying for harm to another is putting hot coals on ones own head. thier is only one who will be the final judge. This verse i try and think about all the time.. James 1:22-25 22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; 24 for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. 25 But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does. NKJV Bless not curse for when you curse you open up a unmerciful heart. so if you want mercy be a giver of mercy. Mercy does not curse it blesses no matter what we may believe in.. Blessings..Miles |

That's not exactly the reason we aren't to judge others. We aren't to judge others, for judging others and ridiculing them and or treating them in a foul way because of this judgement would be hypocritical. That would be putting yourself on a better playing field then this certain person, this would be automatically saying they are a worse person then you, which would be again hypocritical. All sins are equal except one, all sins are forgivable accept one. A judgement on someone(s) go further then just saying they have done a certain thing, it involves action. This action is typically in a foul way eg., treating them differently then you would another. Who are you to say so and so is a bad person for doing something, when you did this or that? Why would you be a better person then this person just because you don't do that certain action? That's why we aren't to judge anyone, for you are no better then this person or that person. You or me are not better then anyone else regardless of what your own personal opinion of oneself. This also falls into being prideful and claiming you yourself not having any faults and or that your faults are not as "foul" as this person's faults. |

We should always pray for loving things, helpful things, positive things on another. We should always hope the best for everyone. This includes but not limited to murderers, rapists, ect. Why are they seen as a lesser person then you? Why are they seen as a worse person? Maybe the things they did was just one time and they just couldn't help them self in that certain incident and it's a mistake they have to live with the rest of their life. Again, what makes you a better person then these people? Why are these people looked down on? Why are they not helped in their mistakes? |

Cowboy, you are so very impervious to reason and logic, that you can be called Jesus' own little miracle. To have a human so bent on sliding over facts and connecting facts in a logical way is a miracle indeed. Mortal man (your parents) can't have been successful as your producers, creators and educators to be so very great at creating you. You are, indeed, God's own miracle. Hallelujah! |

You don't see that wishing well also makes you a judge. You don't see it that way, but I can explain if you like. I would like to first mull this concept over in your head, before we try to talk about it. The rest follows: If you are not worthy to be a judge, (and who is the judge of that, to decide whether you could be a judge or not?) then you must not pray either way for others. |

Forget about the Hate in your childhood.. Its not your fault and lead a fruitful life.. May Yahweh Bless you with Shalom..Miles Well done. Nice, diminutizing, ad-hominem argument released by the best mind of the Christian arguing group on the site that bites the heathen in the face. Aside from being condescending, which shows an ab-ovo feeling of superiority, it is also avoiding the intellectual part of the debate even more obviously. You are pulling out, fast, and throw a bone behind for the atheist dogs so you hope that will stop them from chasing you, at least temporarily, until you reach the fence of the fortress of intellectual debates and can jump over and run like hell for freedom of being embarrassed by being out-debated by an atheist dog, who hasn't god on his side, but damn if he doesn't come up with irrefutable arguments that make the church shake uncontrollably in its foundation. I guess this is university-level Bible college teaching: when you have to capitulate, or else your very ground is pulled out of under your ideological dogma and from under the suprastructure of your Church by your atheist counterpart in a debate, then in those situations, profess your highly trained theological teachers, you must avoid the subject altogether, you must say a platitude that you don't feel but which allows you to retreat gracefully, but do the retreat fast, because there can be times, when your atheist devil debating opposition will notice your motives with the blessing and your calling him insane and a hater, so don't give him time to recoup and come back with revealing your true colours and the bible college's most important lesson on how to ditch all jetsome and just flee like a scared mouse from the debate. |

You are funny.. why would i debate sencelessness? Shalom..Miles Well, I guess there is no point in continuing, if you see my argument as senseless. Maybe you are not using bible-college tactics after all. Maybe you just can't see sense where there is one. That sort of blindness to reason is called "stupidity" in the parts where I come from. Salem A'leikum. |
